Hello guys. I have been having problems with my stereo/cd player since a month or so after I bought the car. One day, it just stopped working. All the lights come on for the buttons when the headlights are on but the screen does not light up.

A few weeks back, it randomly started working when I glanced down and seen the screen lit up with the radio frequency displaying. Turned the volume up and sure enough, it worked. That is until I shut the car off that night and went to work the next morning.

I pulled it out, looked at it, and put it back in. All the wires and harnesses were ok and I could not see a visible wire that was bare. Everything looked up to par. When putting the bolts back in to bolt it up, there were small sparks from the bolts when making contact with the plate it bolts to.

Any ideas as to what is wrong? Maybe the unit is just old and doesnt work properly anymore. But the fact that it randomly came on one night has me thinking it could be something else.

I don't mind listening to the exhaust all the time instead of music, but I would like to rock out to Dragway DSM by Filthy. :hellyeah:

good song by the way when cruisin... it sounds like you got a short some where i know you checked the wires but it may be internally shorting somewhere thats why it sparked when putting the bolts back in. Best bet is to check your voltage readings at the wires for constant 12 volt signal and make sure your ground good. If all of that checks out may be time to upgrade to an aftermarket one

Alright. I will test the wires and see where that gets me. I have a Kenwood but can't remember what I did with my damned harness for it! Lol.

use the model number of the kenwood on the front of the deck. throw it into ebay and you should be able to get the harness for like 20 bucks. it worked for my 5-6 year old kenwood and it was in a kenwood sealed package too! good luck! and the same thing happend in my old grand am the stock radio was just shot once i replaced it i have had no problems!

Ok thanks man. That's comforting. I HATE wiring and would not like to have to search for a wire grounding out.
