Alright here is my problem. I bought a used 1998 Eclipse RS, and the owner before me told me that the car had been broken into and the radio stolen, but all the stock wires were still intact (instead of them ripping it out they disconnected everything all nice and neat, broke some of the dash but not to bad), so i figured it would be easy to install a new head unit since i have done it several times before in other cars. So I looked for and external amp and found none. So I spliced the new head units harness into the stock connector, found a wiring diagram for all the wires and connected them all accordingly . Now here is the problem, when i plug the head unit in it powers up fine and when i put in a cd i have no sound coming from any speakers, so i triple checked all the wires and they all seem to be fine, checked all the fuses, and all seems to be good. Now, do i need to run new wire to all the speakers and amplify them or is there a way i can get around doing that, Please Help:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Here's the problem...There is supposed to be an external amp located underneath the passenger seat. If it is not there then your speakers aren't connected to anything. Here are 3 options that should get you up and running.

Option 1. Locate another stock amp, find the speaker wires coming from your speakers and reconnect everything.

Option 2. Locate the missing speaker wires and run them directly to your newly installed head unit. In the event that the wires are no where to be found, then you would need to run new wires from the speakers themselves to your head unit.

Option 3. Install an after-market amp, (under the passenger seat where the factory one was mounted is a good spot) and run the speakers to that. This will give you more control over the power your speakers will receive and also allow you to better tune their sound. Then just use RCA's to connect the new amp to your head unit and you should be good to go.

It is not totelly true. You do have to use a stock amp; I used to work at best buy radio dept. What you got to is find the amp under the seat as he said the wires that plug in the amp are the wires need for radio to play.

I wasn't saying that the vehicle didn't have a stock amp, but since the car was broken into and things were stolen, they may have also taken the stock amp. He said he looked for one and didn't find one so he probably no longer has one installed in the car.

I wasn't bashing your info. I just wanted him to know he don't have the stock amp for aftermarket raido to work. I was just saying you got to find were it was. I think there are two plugs that pluged in to amp. If they have not been cut you can plug them into each other to delete the amp. Then if he wired the radio correcty it will work.

I thought only cars equipped with the infinity system had factory amps?
Regardless you'll need the power (red), memory (yellow) and ground (black) wires hooked up to get it powered on.
If you have to use a volt meter to find out which wires are what.
(memory) will be constant power (12 volts) with the key off.
(power) will be (12 volts) with the key on.
(ground) will be the chassis or metal of the car.
Then if you have or had a factory amp and want to bypass it, just run your own wires to each speaker.

Alright, so i looked under the seat already, and no amp. So what i was thinking was i have a old 4 channel amp that isn't being used, so if i run some new wires from the speaker wires behind the head unit to the amp that should work, right? After I run the RCA and remote cables that is. I didn't know if the RS eclipse came with an amp OEM so that was what was confusing me, 'cause i know the other models do. So I will try hooking the amp up and see how that goes. I'll let you guys know in a couple days how it went since its raining out today....

I got you Josh. I didn't think you were bashing my info. I just thought so that there wasn't any confusion as to what I meant that I should clarify what I said in my last post.

My old 99 RS didn't have a factory amp, so I expect that yours wouldn't have one either. If you don't find wiring for it under the passenger seat, then it doesn't exist, or the wiring has been tucked/removed. Questions for you: Are you ABSOLUTELY certain that you connected the speaker wires correct? Do you get sound when using just the tuner and not the CD player?
