I've got an Alpine CDA-7969...it is not like the newer Alpine's that do mp3, XM etc, but it is quite possibly the best Alpine deck made minus the 7990. It's a little ugly, but functional as can be.

Nice deck! In all regards, i believe that was the best alpine deck ever. Non clipping 4v preouts, very strong..etc..It was made solely for SQ competition and such. they still get quite a bit on ebay.

I've got an Alpine 9813, and i quite like it. Its got quite a few features, and its XM ready, which i plan to do soon.

As far as Nakamichi's and Denon...those are quite possibly the best decks as far as SQ goes. AND they look simple, and beautiful. Not only is it theft deterrent, but they have a nice backlit orange display, and it matches the rest of the car. If and when my Alpine ever kicks the bucket (which it probably wont, knowing the quality) id replace with a nackamichi deck.

Look at its beauty. No flashy buttons. No goofy silver blingy faceplate trim. No 56.7947837 way EQ. No preset 'vocal' 'pop' EQ features. Just a good ol, trusty deck that will fit in with the rest of the car. You kids these days, wanting all this bling...pfff.

where do they sell those nakamichi's? they look cool, although its too bad they don't play mp3 cd's.

Although the CD400 does not play MP3's, the CD500 does so you may want to look into getting one of those.

Nak and Denon are definitely two of my favorites...SQ SQ SQ all they way :)

Check www.sounddomain.com for the Rockford Fosgate 8250ti/Platinum 2000. It is basically a Denon A1N with an RF emblem that originally sold for $1900 but they are only $350 right now. Holy crap!
