How much would you guys pay for a parts car or a car that you were going to swap an engine into? My current car has some really nasty rust issues on the rocker panels, needs a new dash and steering wheel.

Thinking of swapping my engine into a car with a better body.

Someone is selling a 98 Eclipse with 4 cylinder and auto trans but the body is in much better condition. Only asking $500

When I get home tonight i will get some pictures of my rust problems. As far as I can tell there is some light surface rust on the under body, a little surface rust in the engine bay around the shock mounts. The worst rust is the rocker panels, driver side isn't to bad, but passenger side is pretty bad. The passenger side also has some rusted out spots in the wheel well right behind the rocker panel. The Piece of metal that runs the entire length of the rocker underneath is completely smashed and rusted from the car being jacked up from there.

I have in my possession an angle grinder and a mig welder. I am decent at welding, so fabrication is not a problem.

Depends on the route you want to go. If the rust isn't bad on your current car, you can always try and fix it if you are proficient in fabrication/welding.

That being said, $500 is pretty cheap for a rust free shell. I just bought one for $1000 here up in MN, but it was worth the price to me for the condition.

It actually runs and drives too and is inspected, I think someone already snatched it up though. I started cutting away at mine and the inner rocker is rusted as well but it's repairable. I'm decent at welding. The good news is I don't see any other rust problem anywhere else other than the rockers. There's surface rust on the underside but it should be easily repairable

Miller import parts sells rust free rockers from southern cars reasonably cheap. Cut the old ones off, weld the new ones on, slap the sideskirts on. Done.
Or... If you want to take a trip to Mt.Bethel to DSM Partout my buddy just got a rust free 99 GST shell. Needs paint.

I checked with miller import, he wants $125 a piece for rockers plus freight shipping.
