just trying to figure out cheaper or any alternatives to swapping out the whole engine. im not even sure if the head or the block has the crank. But would it be possible to put a 2g head on a 1g block or vice versa, what ever would help the problem. Just wanted to get some opinions because crankwalk is always on my mind.

I really wouldn't worry about it, you should have symptoms if it comes along, such as the clutch pedal getting stuck on hard left turns, clutch engagement problems, ticking noise coming from engine.

If the oil squirter theory is correct, then the following should help prevent it:
- flush your engine every few oil changes
- use synthetic oil
- slip into neutral at long stops instead of holding in the clutch
- don't ride the clutch

I don't know why you are so worried about it, it really hasn't happened that often. This is a enthusiast site so there are more likely to have reports of problems here.

I am 108K into my 2G DSM 7-Bolt Motor and I have yet to have any crankwalk.

You shouldn't be. You got a 98, so it's not as bad. What I would do, but this is just me, I would swap the opil squirter for a 1G squirter, disable the clutch switch, use synthetic oil and don't ride the clutch when at a stop light. You must know that even a 1G can get CW, it just isnt as common. If you plan on heavy modding, then make sure the engine is properly tuned.

It is possible (but hard to do) to swap in a 6 bolt from a 1G. Quite a few people on here have done it. Do some more research before you do anything...trust me you don't have a lot to worry about.

Do a search, this topic has been talked to death already.

My theory is that you only hear about CW so much is because once someone gets it, they run on here sayin "I got cranwalk!!!!!" But you dont see anyone who doesnt have CW goin "i dont have CW!!!!"...get my point? It's overdramatized. It happens, i would say a reasonable number is 1/10 get it,but for the 98-99, it's more like 1/15...if that

6bolt swap isnt that expensive., but just to answer your question yes you can swap the heads...no that wont help. prevention is stick with a boring stock clutch, dont rag on the car, leave it at stock power levels.

NO.

We're NOT doing ANOTHER crankwalk thread.

Refer to any of the dozens currently open, and go wild.

There is no established cause, consequently there is no established cure. There are very many theories, but none seem to have found it.
