Hey guys, I just finished with a timing belt job - new belts, pulleys, tentioner, water pump the whole deal. So when I went to put my power steering pulley on I lined it up with the little notch on the water pump shaft and it rubs against the timing belt tin!

At first I thought it was just a little bit of dirt/grim build up against the timing tin so I grinded the tin with my dremmel lightly... Still rubs. What could cause this and how do I go about fixing it?

(I just bolted on the p/s pulley for clairty, I know the waterpump pulley goes on over it)

I would first double check to make sure that you put everything back on the right way and that the pulley isn't on backwards. If that looks ok then the bracket which holds the PS pump might be bent. Look at the mounting bracket straight on to see if it is straight. Also make sure that none of the bolts which hold the mounting bracket on are missing or loose. If the bracket is bent you can try removing it and putting it in a vice to try to straighten it out. Another option is to purchase a longer PS belt which will allow you to move the pump all the way forward so that the pulley will be positioned away from the t-belt cover (it will be sitting further towards the front of the car). If you do this last option be careful because if the alignment is significantly off it will prematurely wear the bearings of the pump.

Very Common Problem You Are Having As Defiant Said, I See A Crank Pulley On A 2.0 Dohc And Others Fail All Of The Time. This Can Also Cause Crank Damage So Get It Fixed Asap. Odd That It Started Just After The T-belt Replacement Make Sure You Don't Try To Put Any Pulleys On With The Belts Run That Can Cause The Pulley To Wobble Slightly, Sounds Dumb But I Have Seen It Before And The Pulley Will Not Bolt Down Flush. And Make Sure The Timing Cover Is On Tight There Are Clearance Issues If It Is Not

I honestly dont see anything wrong with the crank... I will inspect it again tomorrow.

I also checked that the timing tin was securely bolted down. I'm still stuck trying to figure out what has changed from before I started the timing belt project (which, may I add, I am never doing again :toobad: ).
