read again fool.... You where the one talking about promblems with your engine. and adding octane to your fuel.

Dude...I think you mis-understood this whole thread. I am pretty sure everyone is talking about mis-fire/studder...etc. when we are on the road driving, not idling...

And I never said anything about adding octane to my fuel...so you read again fool.

While logging I find that studder issure can be attributed to not enough fuel being added at that rpm range. So if you have an AFC, which usually goes hand in hand with bigger injectors, then richen it up. My .02

Does that apply to cars that are stock (like mine)?

After having lots of these problems with my car here is the order I would try to fix this stuff with.

First of course new plugs and wires gapped right.
Second new ignition wires.
And third in my particular car new ignition coils.

That takes care of ignition related problems.

Now if its fuel related then fuel filter first.
Then check fuel pump and maybe get injectors cleaned or try injector cleaner.

If your car still sputters and bogs and stuff then likely look at things like tps sensor and check out ecu for blown up caps. Also not sure but heard the coolant ecu sensor can mabye cause some bogs and stuff .I put a new one in my car also.

And of course the old check for vacuum and boost leaks thing.
i found a good one on upper intercooler outlet it had holes from corrosion.

i have a 99 gst it bucks in third gear around 3000 rpms the service engine light came on i checked the code and it said wastegate acuater fault i havent got a chance to look at it by i might just replace the whole wastegate and gat a performance one n e one have n e suggestions

Hey, would you mind shooting me/us a source/price list for the parts you ended up buying to fix your studder? Especially the coils.

I installed the Accel 7920R plug wires along with NGK BPR6ES spark plugs...problems all solved.

i recently put on a 1g head on my 98 gsx and i know the tuning is wayyy off on my afc because it added much more air. The car still sputters in certain rpms so i messed with the afc a bit and it helped but my egts rise very high at a pretty fast pace(wayy higher than when i had the 2g head)....it also feels like in third and higher rpms in second that it just wont pull hard at all....it doesnt quite sputter but it will just not move quite as quick and thats when the egts really rise....im guessing its the tuning....also, when i had the old 2g head, my cel light came on and the idle would be messed up sometimes....it kind of is with the 1g head too but not bad....anyways, i took it in and it read TPS sensor.....could that be the cause of the slowness and sputtering?.....one more thing..the throttle sticks sometimes when its cold and i guess the TB is dirty or something but im not sure....thanks for the help guys..i just want to make sure everything is running fine before the agp setup goes on....thanks in advance

my car doesnt have a steady idle .. it seems like a miss fire .. it studders alot .. especially when cold , and just recently under WOT accel i cant get anything .. its just not accelrating , it feels like timing , or misfire , really weird , but the weirdest thing is that under half throttle accel its fine

Here's something a little different! Mine was studdering under acceleration due to a boost leak. When I would acclecerate hard in second and third it would studder till about 4500 to 5000. After uip and 1g bov put on and new hoses, the problem was solved. At least for now.
I made the error of getting a boost contoller with now bov. I couldn't boost past 14 psi. After the uip install I hit about 19 psi. Of course, I had to fix that! I'm boosting a 15 psi now and everything seems fine!

the problem with mt car was my timing was wayyyyyyyyy off....he set it right and it runs good now....!

91 TSi AWD had a consistant misfire occurring from 4800 to redline. Turned out that there was a blown out intake lifter. As a result, the rocker arm had fallen off of the cam lobe and only one valve was opening on cylinder 4. For any additional info on this problem feel free to ask me, I spent a lot of time over a 3 month period trying to troubleshoot and track things down.

i'm still trying to figure my problem out, i have new plugs + wires and a k&n filter. now it did this before i changed plugs and filter, but if i drive normal its fine, give it some gas so the boost hits 6 or 7psi it kind of studders, floor it and its fine until you're in boost for a few seconds and then it seems like i hit fuel cut for a second, then comes right back into power, and will do this the whole time its floored. when it cuts out it is like a jerk, kinda throws you forward....any ideas?
i'm going to change the fuel filter this week sometime so i'll let you know if that did anything.

I've had the car for about a month, and it ran hard for a while but now
it studders & pops at about 3000 rpm & up under boost. Seems to be low on power when it does this too. At the higher rpms the exhaust kinda sounds like a machine gun.

From what I gather reading this post and others i need to check my plugs, wires and possibly the coil????

Thanks

Joe

my car is very odd. Its fine most of the time, and idles normally, but when I cruise especially around 3-3500 the car will sputter. It stays like that under boost or if i get off the throttle. Sometimes the prob just goes away while driving and other times I have to turn the car off. The problem never stays. I know I have a boost leak from a bad intercooler and I still have the 2g bov could these be the problem? If it is why wouldnt the car perform bad all the time? Also for the first time today my car turned off on me while driving under this sputter condition. I didnt even know the car was off till i saw the rpms were at 0. but the car started right back up.

I ordered some new plugs, i'm still waiting for em in the mail...
in the meantime, i popped the hood and pulled the spark plug cover off to inspect the wires and boots and noticed the valley was full of oil. Could this oil be leaking down and fouling my plugs?
Should i replace the valve cover and spark plug hole gaskets before I change my plugs?

Thanks
joe

That usually means that your spark plug well gaskets are bad. to be safe, I recommend pulling the cover off very carefully, checking it thoroughly for any cracks, replacing all the gaskets, make sure to use RTV in certain areas, and gasket sealant for the rest when remounting the new gaskets. Also, make sure to apply silicone to the inside of the plug boots and anti-seize grease to the spark plug threads. Good luck.

I have a 97 GST and i can not figure my hesitation out. i just recently had a T28 installed on the car, so i don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but when i'm driving like at highway speeds i will give the car a little throttle say about 3-4 pounds of boost and back off just a hair on the gas and it bucks and jumps for a second then straightens out. don't know wtf it is but if anyone has had these symptoms please post up what the fix is because i am beginning to get aggrivated. thanks
jd

Mine started jumping around a tiny bit in like 2nd and 3rd gear one night. the next morning it started jumping a lot and it started misfiring 3 or 4 times per gear. it would misfire below 3,000 rpm's but higher it would smooth out. i had a bad wire, aand the plug for that cylinder was fried because of that wire. i just replaced the plugs and wires and it fixed it

I have this same damn problem, and I have yet to figure it out. After doing some searching on the GReddy Type-S I was starting to think that the bov was the culprit, but I tried loosening it and tightening it but nothing seemed to change at all. As with you, I'm also currently running the FP Big28. Other than the jerk, and or buck that I get for that split second the car runs extremely strong. I'm just hoping it's not compressor surge. :)

how do you know when your

isc motor is bad

tps is bad

you need new coils where are they located by the way

need a new fuel filter

I put some NGK plugs in it last night gapped @ .028...smoother idle and the hesitation is gone, runs better than when I bought it.
The old plugs were ancient Bosch Platinum I couldnt even see the electrode, i dunno how the car would even run.
Thanx for the input guys!
