It anoyed me cause I had a brand new built motor, brand new star manifold and brand new turbo and wastegate hanging around right under... I had to keep drying things off or cleaning it all with brake cleaner when its cool to make sure the rust stayed away.

If you car cover or garage your car... Evo hood is great... if you like it ofcource... you'll still have to do some cleaning up... but not as much. My car wasn't covered. It was a driveway car!

And I also agree with that Vader hood, I LOVE IT! ITS FLIPPIN HOT!

Nothing should really rust under the hood unless the car sits for a few days because the heat of the engine will evaporate the water away. Just be sure to paint any bare metal and tape up electrical connections where the water might get in. Manifolds should not rust unless they are bare metal then they will still get heat damge which looks lke rust. Brake cleaner will most likely make things worse. WD 40 around connections is good but around other parts it can create rust because it traps dust and moisture. I have found that mothers metal cleaner and other metal polishers will help beed the water from metals and protect from rusting.

The hood and hatch are VIS. VIS upgraded the latch on there new hoods so it should be fine, hood pins are always good for added insurance though. I actually drove with the hood latched but not pushed down once going about 60mph without a problem, I didnt realize it was popped until i stopped, I thanked GOD after that one.

Yeah, I've drove my car 3 times at speed with the hood popped without me knowing it. It never flew up though, . So how long have you had your carbon fiber hood installed? I'm just wondering because I know I'm going to get the same one, I just can't decide if I want to drill into it to add pins or not. You think i'll be fine without them? One more question: I've got a friend that has the VIS evo hood on his eclipse and he had problems with the clear coat on the hood. The clear got like foggy and was starting to come off. My other buddy with an evo VIII and a VIS OEM hood had the same problem. So I was just wondering if anyone with a VIS hood had this same problem, before I dump my money into this brand? Thanks.

VIS is a pretty reputable brand... I've yet to see a CF hood that hasn't had a little fogginess or yellowish tint after a couple years of being on your car. As far as hood pins go... like redeclipse said, it'll be fine w/o hood pins. Do yourself a favor and check the adjustment of your car's release latch. Sometimes it's just a matter of putting a spacer/washer or bending it a bit so that it lines up perfectly with your hood latch.

WTF Why would you spend $500 for a hood and risk it flying up and smashing your windshield to save $10? . To each thier own I guess.

I have only had my hood on the car for about 4-5 months, but it looks as good as the day I got it if not better. Then again I don't drive the car in the winter and there are about 2-3 coats of wax on it.

Also, has anyone noticed that andy's charges for the same hood $20 or so less for a Talon than an Eclipse??? For the Carbon Creations Vader style?

Yeah, it is no longer made but how do you know that Andy's doesn't have them in stock? Have you called them to find out?

Yeah, it is no longer made but how do you know that Andy's doesn't have them in stock? Have you called them to find out?

They order all their hoods, I called Andys (again) and they didn't even know that the Vader hood wasn't made anymore. I looked for this hood for months and called almost every vendor out there, many of which haven't updated their website. If you find some vendor who has this hood, please PM me.

My friend has a cf hood for his civic and he spent a good chunk of change on it, probably close to $500. I looked real sweet when he first got it and it fit great but now two years later it has almost no fade but tiny hairline cracks all over it. I would love to get a evo style 2g cf for my 2G Talon but I'd be pissed if later on it had all sorts of cracks on it.

Get it cleared coated again

Actually that's a good point. My Evo CF hood has a couple 1/2" long cracks along the top edge of the hood vent due to what I'm guessing is excessive heat. Nowhere else are there any cracks at all and nobody else has ever noticed them except myself. I don't think that there is a ton that you can do about that though.

If there are spidery webs in the clear coat, you can get it coated again, but if the gel coat is cracked, you can't do anything about it except trying to buff it out or painting the hood to match your car.

For some reason they discontinued it? There is a second version of it but it looks like shit. You would have to find a used one if you could.
