Possible to remove stuck axle to a hub thru the knuckle??

Ok i searched but nobody yet asked this question and nobody pointed out whether you can do this or not.

Anyways my wheel bearings are humming so it's time to replace them fairly soon. I know the axles will be stuck to the hub since the car is originally upstate NY car and everyhing on it is rusted.

Now the question is. When the axle is rusted to the hub to the point where you can't take it off. Can you undo the 4 bolts holding the hub to the knuckle and pull out the hub and axle out thru the hole in the knuckle as one piece? Or do you have to have to remove the whole knuckle w/ the hub and axle to have it pressed out?

well my wheel bearing it starting to hum real bad so i'd like to see if somebody has an answer

Aren't the U-joint cups bigger than the hub? I'm too lazy to get up and go outside to look, but you might be more motivated than I.

yeah i looked..... it looks like it COULD fit thru..... that's why asking since it's hard to tell for sure just by eyeing it....

I think I tried that. I couldn't get on the bolts well enough to break them loose. I ended up taking the spindle off and setting it up in a press. She was a little stiff but it came out. If I know I'm going to working on one I spray it with Thrust the week before. So far, knock on wood, they've all come out.

Map gas torch and a 3lb sledge...they WILL come out.

I had the same problem, I had to cut the tip of the axle completely of the hub with a torch. I was a little tricky but it worked. You will need a new end for your axle and a new hub. Good luck!
