So i installed my after market DIGITAL oil pressure gague, and i screwed it in where the factory sending unit was, car was idoling a little high about 1500 and the gauge was reading 100, wich im thinking is maxed out for the gauge, also i tied in the factory wire for the dash gauge and its pegged as well . Something is wrong, im not getting an acurate oil pressure reading it cant be that high..

I have a new oil pump installed..

Anyone have any ideas? do i have to buy do i have to buy a sandwich adapter to get an accurate reading or is the stock sending unit location okay ?

stock sending spot should be fine. Was the car warm or cold? If cold 100psi at idle is fine as it will drop as the oil thins out as it warms up.

Car was at Operating tempature, and it didnt seem to move at all from cold to hot. I was wondering if hooking up the dash sending wire with it may have sum how cause it to not work properly.

If the car was at operating temp that is really high. My car with the aftermarket gauge idles at like 18-22 psi.

I would recheck the wiring and see if you find anything. If you dont find anything i would screw a mechanical gauge in to double check. if it is that high DO NOT drive it as high pressure oil is bad.

some things to check
oil pump operating properly and gasket alignment
bse kit installed properly

Well im at a loss, the engine already had a BSE kit on it when i got it, so i didn't mess with the bearings at all, all i did was install the stubby shaft on the new pump gear, put the gasket on and bolted it up . I kinda new that high oil pressure was bad . I honestly don't see how anything could be wrong on the oil pump, the gasket only goes on 1 way . if anything i was expecting it to leak. which it may in time, i just did a 6 bolt swap and this is the first day ive had the engine running. it could take days to get to the oil pump off to check it i wont 8-5 mon-friday.

im just wondering if both gauges dash and aftermarket are giving me a false reading somehow, there both connected together at the sending unit i don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Also remember my idol isnt right eathier its like 15-1600 rpm, i still gotta figure that out

I would really check the gauge before going to much farther. Do you have a friend you could throw the gauge on his car to check it?

i dont know anyone with an aftermarket gauge. i know someone with a stock sending unit, id also like to note that im using the stock 1g oil pressure sending unit on the front of the housing on my 2g i had to cut the connections off and use wire connectors to hook them up because i no longer have the 2g senders.

Before i did the motor swap i wasnt able to see the oil pressure eathier becasue the stock sending unit connection had broken off. but it had 50k on a rebuild.

i had the filter housing off for a few weeks before it was reinstalled on the engine could something have gone wrong with the housing its self ? . Were is the pressure relief valve located ?

i dont see how a new pump could cause the prolbem it has to be an older part thats bad .

i dont know much about the oil pressure regulation on these engines.

So you have both the stock and aftermarket gauge running on the same wires? Your oil pressure gauge should have it's own harness for the gauge which came with the kit. Install it and see if your readings change.

I'm guessing the gauge just isn't receiving the proper signal and is maxed out due to that issue.

no i have the stock and after market gauge running off the same aftermaket sending unit that came with the digital gauge, i thought it was weird that the sending unit doesnt have a ground connection on it i guess some do and some dont , but both gauges have seperate wires there just tied together at the same location.

Iim thinking the same thing since an aftermarket gauge is an actual pressure sensor. I dont think the stock gauge can even understand the signal from it. And I know with other sensors they dont like to share signals.

Wiring an aftermarket sender to the stock gauge is silly.

But, did you calibrate the gauge at all? Many electronic gauges need calibration, even for their own senders.

okay tomorrow i can unhook the factory wire and see if there's any change on the digital gauge. i was wondering the same thing . does anyone out there know anything out that ?

Because if i have 100+ psi of oil pressure at idol something is terribly wrong and im gonna start blowing gaskets out at minium. im just wondering if theres something worng with the oil filter housing as well. i noticed oil was starting to seep from one of the housing bolts wich is torqued with a new gasket.

i just got the car started for the first time tonight after doing the 6bolt swap and cant get the idol down to below 1500 rpm, i spent weeks of doing preventive matience on it while it was out and with 100 psi of oil pressure that could go right out the window in a few hours and i dont want that im a worrie wort about anything that has to do with my engine.

Cool profile, I was able to check your mod list to see what kind of gauge you got in order to help you verify whether it needed calibration or not.

What gauge and sender are you using? And are you sure you wired it right?

2" DIGITAL OIL PRESSURE GAUGE PSI SILVER WITH RED LED - eBay (item 380306859335 end time Mar-11-11 18:30:27 PST)
im using this gauge its just a cheap one but should work fine

i didnt know it need calibration and according to the seller it maxes out at 120 psi so its not going that high at least .

Are the wires from the back of the gauge going DIRECTLY to the sender?

Also, it's "IDLE" not "idol"

Yes, I have the Green wire on the gauge going to the sender, black wire from gauge going to ground, and red wire going to the same source as my boost gauge. you know its funny the gauge on the sellers page reads 100 psi just sitting there hooked up to a battery .....

Have you tested the oil pressure at all RPMs and not just an extremely high 1500 RPM idle?

Did the original owner also remove the oil squirters? This would raise the pressure even more. Do you know if he ported the Oil Filter Housing? You might need to do that or clip a rind or two off the Oil Pressure Relieve Valve spring.

im begining to think the gauge is not functioning properly, it reads 100 all the time never changes. i could scan and post up the install instructions for it to see if anyone can tell me anything im not catching.. did anyone check the link i posted of what kind of gauge im using ?

Process for accessing, portng and inspecting oil pressure bypass valve.

But hope your gauge is malfunctioning thats an easy fix:) New gauge. Not sure if you meant that your stock gauge is pegged too? I know its inaccurate but if the signal is peggin out both gauges......

Well I got next 3 days off so will be watchin, reading and searching:) GL.

Thanks appreciate that , yeah I have the factory gauge tied in where the aftermarket sending unit is that could be causing my malfunction but I'm not sure, both gauges are pegged from the sending unit. except the digital is supposed to Peg at 120 psi, and funny thing is the aftermarket digital gauge reads 100 psi with the key in the on position and the engine off.

well i want to thank everyone for there response's it was greatly appreciated, i found out the prolbem with the gauge, it didnt like the factory gauge tied into it, i cut it free and the turned the key now the gauge reads 0 with engine off, so i started the engine and it was 76-78 psi on start up, i would expect it to drop as it warms up if it doesnt ill be sure to let everyone know i have another problem.

Thanks everyone A++++
