Possible DSM buyer

Hey everyone. Hi I'm new yada yada. I moved from CA to CO for school 5 years ago and looks like I'm staying after I graduate. I initially wanted a WRX but tranny issues scared me off for the $ they cost. And STi is most likely out of my range but I def. want a AWD car. I've heard good things ragarding modability of GSX's and turbo DSM's. I'm interested in a 2g GSX MT. I have owned a 65GTO which I rebuilt the bottom end in, and currently own a 97 Jetta GLX. I consider myself car savvy, but curious what initial cost I could be looking at, as well as what a fair price for a GSX with under 100k on it is. Thanks everyone.

Depending on year, condition, miles, and previous mods a 95-99 GSX can range from $4000 - $13000.

If you are willing to consider a talon, you would be looking at a lower price. Also lower insurance.

wrx tranny issue is to 2g's w/ crankwalk. Every car has its ups and downs with problems.

What mileage is too high for a DSM? Generally speaking? I don't mind previous mods too much on these cars, seem less fragile (maybe not?). I bought my jetta with 109k and it still runs the same at 125k. What are common problems to look for when looking at a car?

A handfull of people run into problems around 90k-100k. If you have the knowledge to fix it yourself, then go for it.

If you have the money, buy the WRX...

if not, you could make a pretty sweet dsm, purchase price from $5000-10000 + $5000-10000 in mods... would be unreliable, but faster.
