Possible car trade Should I?

Alight my cars a 1990 Eagle Talon 2.0 NT Mods/Pics in profile. Theres a guy here in town interested in trading, hes got a 1991 Plymouth Laser 2.0 FWD Turbo. My cars pretty much in great shape, just need to get the tranny worked out before the deal is made. His car has a few minor problems, he says the turbo's bearings are bad and the turbo's running 70%, the passenger side fender is pretty buckled, no stereo system, and thinks its missing a little on one cylinder. His car has 11x.xxx miles and mine has 41,000. Should I or shouldnt I? His T-Belt was recently just done with a few other minor things. The cars in decent shape with a little paint fade. My plan was to sell my car very soon after I get my tranny fixed. THe plan was to get ahold of a 1g awd shell and drop a jdm into it. Tuners should I jump on this or wait?

Your car looks like its in really good shape, Maybe you could sell it, and be able to buy a decent turbo car with the money?

Yeah...and the turbo will die within a couple hundred miles with your luck. Bearings are a SERIOUS issue, you don't want to pay $600+ for a new turbo do you?

So the turbo is going out, and so is the motor, this is a lemon waiting to happen. 2/3 of the car's major components are a accident waiting to happen, there is a reason why he wants to trade turbo for non-turbo because he wants out of his money pit that he probably caused in the first place.

in final words,
don't get this car, its a lemon.. if the car was really in decent shape he wouldn't trade you for your non-turbo he'd keep it.

Well, the guys says he dont care about going fast hes all show, and the car is a good start, he said the coil pack prolly just needs changed, and the turbo's are cheap to replace (150) However you guys are prolly right, I just wanna be fast instead of trying to be like a Honda owner I dont have any tac money coming in so all my money's gonna be coming from just selling my car. Im gonna put a FS sign on it soon, $2500 so i can get ahold of a awd parts car and drop a JDM into it. Thanks all for telling me what was already in the back of my brain screaming NOOOOOO Dont do it!

When I had my old car I got messed into buying (mazdamx3 ) I wanted another turbo car so bad. I was about to trade for an awd talon that needed "some work" here come to find out it need a whole new tranny,motor,exhaust... But I didnt care I just wanted to have another fast car. Then I held off and looked around and I found my 90gsx for only 700bucks. Needed some minor stuff and a computer which i got for 150. I would say if you wait longer and just look around I bet you will find something and look back and say man i'm so glad I didnt do that trade. Also, Watch it with those jdm motors dont they come used? Just think about it, That car could have been beat to death before they took the engine out Good luck selling your car, not like your going to need it since its a really nice car.

Hey dude If you could get 2500 for your car then you should be all set.You could find a decent 1G AWD for that kinda money.They are around you just have to look real good

Yes the JDM engines are used, but come from low mileage cars, I would be ordering mine from StreetImports.com THey do have a warranty. The guy with the laser is coming over today, I'm gonna go through it very thouroughly. Engine lookover/compression check/suspension lookover/overall appearance/little things here and there

Hindsight is 20/20.
If you sell your car for $2,500 you could easily pickup a good running 1st gen if you look around. If you get $2,500 your doing really good bro.

Update:

Guy brought the car over today and I went for a spin in it this SOB is faster than heck!!! He even let me drive it wow pulls like a SOB. As for body damage it needs 2 new front fenders there dented pretty good. The paint is faded on th rear hatch and theres a small crack in the rear bumper. ( got a spare parts car with all these good panels but in a different color. Most of the glass was previously knocked out and replaced but I couldn't tell, just heard the ratteling glass in the doors. The miss he was referring to came out to be some very crappy no name plug wires not connecting properly to the coil pack, they arent tight and slip off very easily. So new wires will fix that. The 14b pulls strong, but makes a little noise sometimes, the clutch pedal is stiff as hell, compared to my 2.0 nt. car needs a stereo system no speakers in it either. However I didnt get to run a compression test on it so maybe I'll get around to it next week. The front end shakes a little at high speeds, and the front suspension is very worn. When the car takes off its like an airplane taking off, and sways back and forth, kinda hard to keep under control. He was beating on the poor car pretty hard. As for his clutch it doesnt seem to grip like mine does, mines grips awesome and I cant feel it as well in his As for mods its has a hacked air can and a raven muffler on stock exhaust which sounds very nice.

So the only way he'll trade is if I get my tranny fixed, he drove my car and def says my syncro's are worn out What should I do? his motors feels strong, just needs minor things to be tip op.

Dude, the way you sayin his car is running theres no way I would trade cars. I'll specify what would make me wary of that car.

#1 - It shimmys at launch? Suspension is going soon I bet yah...
#2 - Turbo makes odd sounds sometimes? Like you said, bearings... Not Good
#3 - If he beat the car hard for the whole test drive then you should seriously consider how he drives the car from a DAY TO DAY basis...
#4 - If his clutch dosen't "grab" like yours chances are it could possibly be going out.... If that clutch is going look at another pretty penny for that to get fixed.

Not to be rude but it definately sounds like hes going to end up trying to run you for a chump if he wants you to get yours fixed and PAY for it then trade him cars.

I say sell yours and find better.

It definatly seems like you like this car, But if his car needs work, Why would you hafto get the transmission on your car fixed? Maybe you can make him alittle deal about that. Also, i'm not trying to offend you in any way because your car is very nice but, There hasto be a reason he is trying to trade his turbo car for a lower model? I would say, If you feel it is worth it, and only you would truly know this since it is your car, and you have the time to fix this car and get it running correctly, i would say go for it. Or do the other suggestion, maybe sell your car and find a decent turbo car.

Thanks red I understand what your saying, but its hard when you got a slow car compared a holy crap thats fast car. I was amazed at how fast these turbo dsm's can be. But I understand its prolly gonna need some money put into it, and really i would rather have awd and a low mileage engine. JDM will be my way to go, I finally drove what I'm missing out on and it makes me sad that all the little things I've done to mine havent meant crap its still slower than a stocker 4g63t I guess Ill wait

If ya think this front wheel drive turbo is amazingly quick , wait until you drive an awd turbo you'll say i cant see the grounddd this is soooooo fricken awsomeeee saying all that while your head is in the seat with your cheeks wiggling back and forth from the speed:laugh:
