I have read numerous threads about bad front ball joints. I don't think my issue is a ball joint.
Few things first. 96 GS-T Spyder with 74K miles. Ball joint recall was performed. Car was stock when I bought.
I am the second owner. The previous owner is an older lady neighbor.
Issue noticed after having a small accident when I ran off road and hit a pile of dirt.
It first started randomly when I had a hard launch. It is not a click...it is a hard thump like a 3lb sledge to the subframe. No sounds on bumpy roads or turning. Heck this car rides smoother and quieter than my 07 G35.
Now I am noticing when I have a hard stop. Both launches and stops cause a hard thump to the driver side.
Shortly after the accident I replaced the rusty tie rods so I could aligned it. I honestly can't remember if the thump was before or after the tie rods.
Car is now lowered about 1.5" frequency and magnitude of the thump is same.
I have put the car on the lift numerous times looking for evidence of the control arms hitting something. Nada!
Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks
