Well Im putting a race ported head on my car along with a new head gasket, apr head studs. Im getting the head resurfaced but not the block. I wanted to know what head gasket would seal with no problems?
thanks

Well with the arp studs a oem headgasket will hold up to and around mid 20psi range. But performance wise i would go with a MLS cosmetic multy-layer headgasket. I bought one when i did mine i got a 4-layer and i got arp studs, and that combo it would be very hard to blow it.

Also rember with a MLS cosmetic gasket you need to make sure both mating surfaces are even and smoth. You said your head is getting decked i would check the block just to be safe of any run-out. Other wise they wont last that long.

I have to second that. It's touchy. If you get andy significant knock, you'll likely blow it. But that makes for a good 'safety fuse' for a stock, cast component block.

But that's definately not what you want to use your head gasket for.

I ALWAYS have my logger viewing, but too much detonation can happen way too fast. It's a last ditch defense. Like the circuit breakers in your house, it will switch off when you go so far as to heat the wiring enough to cause a house fire. I wouldn't go sticking my tongue in a light socket because I have a 10 amp ciruit breaker on that line, though.

If something goes horribly wrong before I realize or if I'm just having a 'senoir moment', it's there to take the heat instead of my pistons, rings, rods, exhaust valves, cylinder walls and eveything else you know that can be destroyed by detonation. Since it is cheaper and easier to replace than those components, it's better that than those components. So It's ok if it's the weak link. As long as your tune is good, then it can take lots of power (w/ ARP studs). And pop if something like your fuel pump rewire relay suddenly fails, or your maf skips hertz counts, etc.
