I recently blew my head gasket so i am going to have the whole motor tore apart so trying to decide what to do while everything is off...willing to do about any performance mod...i am kinda new to dsm/turbocharged motors..been a chevy smallblock guy my whole life...wondering if it's a good idea to port and polish the head. and what other mods are a good idea while the head is off already...pulleys,rocker arms,cams...any help will be appreciated...

Thanks for any help
Chris

Im sure other DSMers will agree that it all depends on what ur goals are for the car. Ive been told that unless u have the correct tools to do the porting and polishing and a flow bench u can do more harm than good. I just gasket matched mine w/o going into the individual runners. Check in the tech articles for a how-to-do porting and polishing and read up on what other people have done. www.vfaq.com should have some info on that too. :talon: :thumb:

well i had planned on taking it to have it done and not doing it myself...i plan on sticking with the stock turbo and i want to hit 11's so i'm going to need some motor instead of just slapping some huge turbo on and calling it a day...i plan on rebuilding the motor this winter...just wondered if other dsmer's have done this?

Thanks chris

Plenty of DSMers rebuild their engine. Just do a little searching in these forums and will find millions of rebuild threads. If you have a machine shop you trust then you will be set. My recommendation to you is buy the HAYNES manual to learn how to get through the basic stuff (timing belt, etc). Since you are already familiar with cars in general it probably won't be too difficult for you.
