I don't have much money so i decided im not going to mess with dsmlink and a eprom ecu. I decided im going with a safc II. Now would it be easier to tune the safc with a pocketlogger(about $125) or a more expensive wideband. I figure the pocketlogger will only tell me low, mid, and high trims but the wideband would tell me my a/f ratio at any rpm that im at. Im only 16 and still learning so please dont flame me. I just need some advice cause i pay for everything in my car and i dont make much. and sry for any spelling mistakes.

Wideband is the way to go. Any logger is only gonna show you the stock narrowband O2 readings which aren't very accurate especially not for tunning whereas a wideband is very accurate and what you need if you want to tune correctly. I believe (not 100% sure) that zeitronix sells the cheapest wideband set-up. But it really depends on what you want in your wideband system. Here is a link to pretty much all your wideband options:

Widebands

some of the prices on there are quite a bit higher than what most places sell them for, just look around and see what you can come up with

I would get a logger first, then get a wideband. You should tune according to your a/f ratio, and knock, just as Decker0004 said.

Well, if he was pushing his timing like he should be, which he can't because he's going to use an SAFC-2, he might run into knock, at which point he'd back off his timing. Realistically, he's not going to see very much power from leaning out the AFR, though the fairly uncontrolled increase in timing that brings with an SAFC might or might not work out in his favor. Even a DSMlink wouldn't be ideal for him, the ability to precisely control timing on all the load maps is what would get him the best power through the range.

realalistically you should do both. that way there is no questions about what is going on. i have a plx m-300 for sale is you want it. itll go cheap. pm me for price.

So what would be ideal and would allow him to control timing as well?

I am not going to use this setup on my na car. Im selling my na for a tsi or gsx. if im lucky and get one with an eprom ecu ill go with dsmlink but if not I'm sticking with a safc II. There lots of people on this forum that use the safc and I don't see why it would be hard to get good power with. I mean with the stock injectors, I wouldn't be reducing the air signal enough to really effect my timing much would it. I can see were this would be a problem with larger injectors where I run into the great possibility of knock. Can base timing be reduced to compensate for this? I guess I wouldn't have very much power in the lower rpm range but Im not worried about that. Sorry for any spelling mistakes

There should be some kinda piggyback system for injectors that would intercept the ecu's signal to the injectors and reduce its time by the percentage of how big the injectors are compaired to how big the stock ones are. If this was the case, you wouldnt have to worry about tuning for larger injectors but tunning for that good a/f ratio. This would also reduce the percentage of air signal that you would have to fake with the safc and in return help with the knock issue.
