PnP EMS??

I was always under the assumption that EMS had it's own wiring and you did not need the stock wiring harness at all except for maybe a couple connectors but I was looking at the AEM site and they list the EMS 30-1300 as a Plug and play unit where you can use the stock harness? Anyone have any experience with this? I want to go EMS with my new build but the whole point is to keep the weight down and the whole harness is heavy as hell. I might as well go Dsmlink

I've been running one of these things for years, and so have many other people. There is a lot of info about it, and what wiring is necessary, I believe I gave somebody else help with the wiring in a thread a couple of months ago. It's very straightforward.

Do they make a seperate unit if you just wanted to have the basics? I mean I have read about the headaches of just trying to cut stock stuff out because of how the stock ecu wiring is setup. Like I would like to cut out the stock fuse box ac/heat IAC the stock coil setup to go COP and so forth so that its' literally just the essentials. The only real accessory I will still be running is a alternator and maybe PS.

I run the PnP 1300 box in the RWD with a gutted engine harness. It doesn't weigh more than a few pounds once it's down to the essentials, even with some wiring being larger than it really needs to be. I'm in the process of doing the same thing for my Mighty Max. It's not fun and it's time consuming, but it's not brain science. With the AEM, any functionality related to wiring/components you've removed can just be ignored or disabled. No need for a different box. They all run the same software regardless of application anyway. IMO, this is still easier than wiring in the universal race box. In gutting the stock harness, at least all of the connectors for the sensors you are keeping are there and ready to go.

WHich parts of your stock ecu did you delete? Like I figure you still need crank cam knock some sort of maf signal an egt gauge a wideband hook up the alternator the starter ect. Once you add up all those things I don't see what you can really get rid of except the fuse box wiring part of it Makes me want to just go back to good old dsmlink and not worry about saving weight. I think that I can get to my hp goal with the link but I wanted to go all out with this setup.

Just everything you don't need on a race car. For a street strip car, I wouldn't bother. You could strip everything but all of the engine stuff and use either AEM or DSMlink.

Yeah I think I"ll just leave it a lone I don't think it's worth it I put it all on a scale to get an idea and it's not worth it. I'll just get go EMS with speed density as I have no eprom and I would only be looking at another 4-500 to go EMS.

I went with the EMS for the same reason i really wanted speed denisty. I wanted to not rewire the whole car. I had a dead ecu.

So it was not that much more to go with the ems.

Yeah same here except I have no ECU . I mean they do sell complete dsmlink setup for 600 on the link forums I know there is one there right now but it's for a 2g but I want speed density too like you said and I"m not messing with the MAFT setup again I don't want to short stuff on this build anyway.

The initial release of the new version of DSMLink (if it ever happens) will not have the speed density feature, but it is planned for sometime in 2009, according to the DSMLink forums.

If you're doing this to a 1G, there is DSMap. However, if you're to the point where you're worrying about ECU wires as far as weight savings, you may be beyond its capabilities HP wise. I have already sold myself on AEM EMS anyway I have local friends that will help with anything I need wiring wise. EMS is plug in play too in a way as the stock harness plugs right into the EMS unit. I don't have a ecu as I bought my car as a rolling shell with a cage so dsmlink even though an option seems like a waste when I could just go EMS for like 3-400 more and not run a MAF with speed density
