Looks like an after market peice. Maybe a coolant temp sensor for an aftermarket gauge..

That's what i thought but i posted 2 days about this and i got a odd responce when i said i have vac lines coming from my t-stat housing. Someone got a 100% answer ?? Thanks for the input guys if it helps it's a 1g 1991 GSX

If this is a 1g tstat housing installed in a 2g, it does nothing. You can take out the fitting, and plug it with an appropriate pipe thread plug.

However, the plug above it that's broken is more pertinent as it relays coolant temp information to your ECU. replace it.

IT's a 1g housing but it's still on my 1g so where do the lines go?? THanks for the info on the one above that also :thumb:

There should be 2 vac lines that run from it to your EGR valve which is below the throttle body on the intake manifold.
It's pretty easy to spot once you start searching down there! :)

It is a thermo-valve for the EGR operation at a certain temp it will open and allow the vacuum to flow through. It only pertains to a stock 1g car if you have modded you car you can remove the egr system including that item.

its for emissions

Yup, I took it out and now its occupied by my water temp sender. I need to find out were the ecu gets its temp reading because my autometer gauge is about 10* cooler than what DSMlink reads.

The ECU gets it's temperature from the sender directly below where you installed your Autometer sender. It's the one with the 2 pronged plug.
