RESOLVED THANK YOU
Background: 1998 GSX 104,000 miles on it. Stock except a Dejon Tool intake

I recieved my Greddy RZ BOV today and a reducer for the intake-to-turbo.

The urethane hoses i got with the intake to connect it to the turbo was wack, It went from a 3" to a 2" using ONE big hose to go over 2 smaller ones to reduce it but they kept moving around regardless of how tight i made the clamps. So i went to Lowes and bought a Rubber/PVC flexible pipe section (3" one side 2" other) (very thick and seemingly durable) for $7 and put it over top the one LARGE sleeve (over the intake) and the smallest sleeve (that fit over the turbo end) for a really snug fit and tightened the clamps....

I then decided to put on the BOV I got from ExtremePSI that came with the recirc kit and the flange for the stock piping.

I put the BOV on as shown and went for a drive...had two friends in the car. The BOV sounded louder than the stock one but not as whistley as i wanted (sounded too similar to a WRX sound) So i asjusted it a few times till i got the sound i wanted.

We went to pick up some pizzas and the sound started changing WHILE we were driving...The BOV sound became more LASER ish. Then all of a sudden my turbo sounded less like a turbo and more like a supercharger...It was spooling (or sounding like it was spooling) constantly...or atleast with VERY LITTLE throttle. It has a very whinney sound now and if i get on it a little i can here everything loudly and at around 4,500 (with 60-100% throttle) the boost cuts and it makes a really not so good sound from the engine.

We stopped the car and pulled over and let it idle...then with the hood popped I reved it up to likr 5k to let my friend here it and he said it sounded like it was coming from the Intake...

I cant take anything apart now cause its pitch black here so i will tomorrow and take some pics to post.....
I did check all the pipes and hoses and everything is still intact

Can anyone make a suggestion for now?

my fears:
1. Something came loose out of the BOV after time and went into the turbo
2. I sucked something THROUGH the turbo (holy shit did i just Eff my engine up?)
3. No idea but i dont want something bad to happen! please help!?

Im almost 100% sure that whining sound is coming from your BOV...and its just a small boost leak...

Correct me if I'm wrong anybody.

Pull the intake back off and hope for the best. Hopefully one of the many reducers it sounds like your using didn't go through the turbo. Check for shaft play by reaching in compressor inlet and wiggling compressor nut. If it moves a lot or the fins are bent/broken the turbos toast. Time to ditch that t25 anyways. If the turbo checks out you've most likely got a large boost leak.

Im hoping its just a boost leak...that would explain why the power cuts at a certain point...

I will be praying tonight.

I will take it all apart tomorrow when the sun is out and take some pictures...

Your BOV is after your turbo.... I really don't see anything being recirculated into your turbo from the BOV the plunger on the BOV is too big to fit in there. please correct me if Im wrong anybody..

The plunger is definitely too big but i was not sure if there was a spring or something else....but alas i will take pictures today after i disassemble everything again.

Okay so here is what happend: The crappy reducer must have expanded and allowed the small urethane 1" hose to get sucked into the turbo....and here is what it looks like all apart:

This is the intake with some urethane pieces in it (pre turbo)

Okay so now i cannot go any further in my driveway with disassembly....I need your help fellas! How bad are those shavings going to hurt the engine? What can i do to clean whatever can be salvaged? Any advice would be greatly apprecaited!

WTF did you ingest? If you dont know ### it was then take a look at the inside of your air filter. Sometimes the rubber breaks down and under the high flow of air under boost the pieces of rubber will get sucked into the compressor inlet.

if i understand what your asking YES the car was running when this happend...it went into the turbo....

My uncle who is a mechanic said he wouldnt worry as much about the engine because of how fine the powder was (the turbo chews urethane up pretty good) and the heat of the combustion chamber will likely burn up anything left...

Man that sucks, sorry about the mishap. But you were tired of that t-2small anyways right? Start by running a hose through the intercooler to get the bigger stuff out. Then pour some gasoline or other solvent in it and shake real good and then rinse with the hose for a while. I'd pull off all the IC piping as well and clean it too. You might want to remove the throttle body and clean it as well, but I think just wiping out the inlet with a rag should be sufficient. Like your uncle said those tiny little rubber pieces aren't going to hurt anything, but clean em up as best you can. You can find a 14b super cheap or upgrade to a 16g or whatever. Good luck!

You need to find out where it came from though. Where did the rubber originate from?

When i bought the intake from DEJON it was a 3in end...it came with THREE urethane hoses...
One hose was 3" diameter x 3.5" wide
One hose was 2.5" diameter x 1" wide
One hose was 2" diameter x 1 " wide

the idea being you put the two smaller ones over the turbo and then put the big one over both the turbo and the intake and it acts like a reducer...

Long story short the smallest one got sucked into the turbo....i found the remaining half wedged in the fins.....

Im going to blast as many parts as i can get off the car with compressed air to clean them and then wipe down the throttle body...And i guess start looking for a new turbo

True it's good that it was only a T25. Now is an excellent time to upgrade to a 14B or whatever your budget allows. A T25 would be one of your first mods anyways. :) I highly doubt this will have a detrimental effect on your engine. I recommend that you also pick up a SS braided oil feed line for whatever turbo you purchase.

Im having trouble finding a suitable turbo for an upgrade though...not many t28s or others that would bolt up to my current stock setup

A 14B should be an easy enough find. I usually can find one on Craigslist for $100-150. Just make sure you prepare to make some adjustments though. The J-Pipe to Intercooler Pipe obviously will require modification and the oil feed line that I mentioned before.

Good Luck,

I am finding a decent amount of t25s in "good" shape so i think for now im going to just stick with that and upgrade later.

I cleaned all the piping out with compressed air and some rags. The intercooler caught most of the pieces...had to hose that thing out in multiple directions, multiple times....but its looking a lot better.

Ill probably take the turbo and the throttle body off today for inspection, Ill keep updating incase i find something else wrong.

wow dude that is crazy! i've never saw the fins bend over like that. Usually when things get injested the compresser wheel shatters

The exact same thing happened to me, only difference was that my fins got dented. Only good thing about it is that it's upgrade time!!!:hellyeah:

okay newest problem....i went on VFAQ to get some instructions on swapping my turbo....took everyones advice and bought new crush washers and gaskets....but now after some double checking realised that the list if for a 1G swap not a 2G meaning its a 14b not a t25 right? Sooooo im guessing all my parts (or most of them) wont work...like the gaskets and possibly some of the fittings......someone please tell me they all work
