My Talon is a 93 tsi awd and was manufactured July 92, which makes it a 1g-7bolt, which it is. Dont these modles come with a 23 spline? Well I told Jacks the year make and modle of my car and he rebuilt my tranny which he sent me a 23 spline tranny which is correct too(correct me if Im wrong). I went to the shop to get it installed today and come to find out it has a 22 spline:barf:. Why would someone change from a 23 to 22 spline? Or was this a manufacture error? It cost me 150 bucks, a day off of work, and a 2hr drive there just to find this out:banghead:. Now I have to find a 23 spline transfer case and I need to have one shipped out on Monday. I need feedback on why you guys think there is a 22 spline in my 93? Im not trying to turn this into a add but anybody that has a 1g awd(not 97-99) 23 spline in great shape for sale let me know......864-784-1079...txt anytime and be ready to send pics

Someone must have obviously swapped the stuff out. Not like you knew or anything but you could've figured out what it was before ordering.

Basically if the whole trans is aluminum it is the 22 spline. the 23s were 1/2 aluminum and the front half was cast iron.

So really you could've taken a magnet and if it stuck to the front half it is a 23 spline.

Anyways good luck

Not the case. We put a magnet on each part of the t-case and it suck like glue. Even have t- cases from different modles that stuck in one area and not in the other. Called different shops but no one could confirm it. Why would someone switch rom a 23 to 22 spline?

Well someone obviously swapped a 90 transmission and transfer case in there or just a 90 output shaft and t case . I would check to see what shifter and cables it has also. You only choice is to buy a 22 spline output shaft or buy a 23 spline transfer case.

Not so fast there. The recall cases had iron front halves but were 22 spline if you had a 90. I have one. Just remove the case and count the splines. To the OP just switch the output shaft on the trans. It will be less expensive to do this and isn't a difficult procedure.

Switching out the output shaft would void the warranty. Im thinking about just getting a used 23 spline. Or is it worth 450 for a rebuilt one. Pauleyman you have been a big help.:thumb:

Are you serious??? Pull the darn 5th gear cover, remove the viscous coupler snapring, pull the viscous coupler and detent ball, slide out the output shaft towards the Tcase, slide a 22-spline shaft in, reinstall the detent ball and viscous coupler and snapring, clean the case sections, RTV them and close it back up.

Or, go get a 23-spline Tcase.
