i finally put the new clutch tob and pressure plate in. everything is now installed except for clutch fluid i just wanted to test it by starting it. and a horrible noise that barely starts and i think its getting worse. i have no idea how its shifts yet due to being no fluid, it used to do this before but never this bad, i thought this would fix it please help....

so did you drain the tranny fluid when you took it off? did you fill it back up b4 you started the car?

yes i filled it before i started it and yes i tightened them up good! what could cause this, flywheel??? idk i really need this thing running asap

thats good to hear you think its the starter not the flywheel haha. to tell you the truth my oil pressure fluctuates, pretty sure its a bad gauge but it goes up then really low when i do run it hard. that was the second time i started it, the first time it still made that noise but it started a little quicker......

That loud noise I had too actually come to think of it. When I had pulled off my transmission, I hadn't started it in like 5 days and when I finally did I had a loud noise near cylinder 1. Let the car idle for awhile and it eventually went away. At first I thought it was my oil pump but it's not. Than I thought it was lifters replaced those with no fix. Finally after 2 days it went away. I wouldn't say that's your problem but still thought I'd mention it

im actually going to get my starter tested.... i need more input on this guys come on

got it tested they couldnt even start the damn thing...but how can i start my car then?? im hoping they didnt hook it up wrong and me buying a new starter isnt a waste. all in all as long as i dont have to drop the tranny again im happy!

i would start with the starter, it will eliminate one problem then you can focus on the other. If that doesnt solve it you can always take the starter back.

the sound went away after the car was running right? if so that pretty much narrows it down. the last loud skreech you heard sounded like what happens when you try to crank your motor with the car already running. its from the starter gear grinding against the flywheel. That could be the spring on the starter gear going out and not pulling back in fast enough. I would put money on a bad starter.

well guys got it checked twice and they said it was bad so i bought a new one put it in same damn thing, now i have this constant clicking noise coming from the starter/flywheel region. w t f. im so pissed i have no idea and im ready to blow this thing up. =[

ok ill check them but is there any chance its the flywheel??! i mean the teeth looked fine on it..

update: well i went underneath the car and found a hole where a screw needs to go from the block to the tranny could this cause the grind!? the only problem is nothing fits in that hole all the way. im convinced that there is a broken screw wedged in there, so now im screwed! i hope thats the culprit though.

Did you replace the throwout bearing? How about the pilot bearing? If the input shaft isnt properly aligned itll make noise, and a bad throwout will certainly cause knocks. Good luck

yes i replaced the throwout bearing. as far as i know dsm's do not have pilot bearings. and i used a pilot tool to correctly allign the shaft into the clutch. tob isnt necessarily knocks, its usually a whirling noise or a chatter.

Ive definately had TOBS cause audible knocks when engaging or disengaging. Although Im a bit ignorant to 4g63s, I cant imagine it doesnt have some sort of bushing/bearing for the input shaft. Is it grinding while starting? when its running, if you engage the starter do you notice a change in noise? almost sounds like your starter isnt disengaging. What did the old one look like? was it eaten up? how did the flywheel look? did you tighen all the pressure plate bolts evenly?

it grinds as it starts and once its running i had a slight tapping noise, then i loosened the bolts on the starter a tad and the tapping went away but it still grinds. i went in a star formation for the pressure plate bolts torqued to 16lbs. the flywheel is a little worn but it dont seem too bad. the old starter was dirty, but advanced auto tested it and it wouldnt start as for the teeth in it, it didnt look bad at all. i have no idea what this could possibly be

ooh-I had this happen before on a chrysler. I installed the transmission and it had a grinding noise. turns out the plate that goes behind the flywheel got bent (the sheetmetal spacer plate between the motor and trans) and was rubbing, causing a noise. Just a suggestion.

thanks for your help, i checked the plate and i dont think thats the issue i took the starter out and felt the sheet of metal its a little small for the the hole but the starter goes in fine im pretty much sick of working on this issue haha.
