hey guys i have a qestion how do you know if you have a cyclone are there any indications its not an usdm and what are the differences ? any help wold be aprecc:D iated

Can someone explain this "Cyclone" JDM eclipse motor to me, they didnt make a JDM eclipse/talon/laser. And if they didnt make a jdm car, how can there be a jdm engine. I dont deny they exist(even though several reputable vendors deny that they do), just want to know what they come from. Oh and also why they are called a cyclone.

what i want to know is what are the internal differences and another question i have an act clutch i used on my 7 bolt would it work with a cyclone if use a six bolt flywheel??

I am not 100 percent sure, but from what I was told is that the Cyclone only relates to the intake manifold itself, the "cyclone motor" is a misconception. I believe a JDM spec motor is the same 6 bolt motor we have in the US, it just has the EvoIII 16g and a larger bore intake manifold. Im not sure whether they had the eclipse or talon in Japan, but they have always had the 4g63t in the galant, and the Lancer Evolution. I hope this clears up and questions you may have.

Honestly there really are no real differences for USDM 6bolt 4G63's and JDM 6bolts. The only differences are the obvious "Cyclone intake manny" which is great for a city cruiser and occasional track car but restrictive if you want mad top end power. Also the JDM GVR4 has a 90' style flywheel with 3 mounts for the clutch PP compared to the USDM which has 9 and is a bit lighter. As far as internals, Pistons are the same, Big Rods standard, Crank is the same, Cams... not too sure. If you get lucky you may get a B16G, 510cc injectors, and less than 30K on the Odometer.

PM me if you wanna know more:thumb:

A cyclone intake manifold has dual runners, which can give you power if the runners are tuned right, but if not they can do more harm than good. Here's a kind of fuzzy shot I took of the cyclone intake I have.

There was no eclipse/talon/laser, but they did have the galant vr-4, which most of the 4g63 come out of. If you have a true cyclone motor, then it wont fit into the usdm dsm because of motor mount issues. But when importers say cyclone they are trying to make it sound like its something great but its really not. Its just a motor. I have a jdm motor in my car and it ran an 8.9 stock in the 1/8th which is about normal. The only difference i noticed was the valve cover lettering

The ONLY difference in the motors, as stated, is the intake manifold. It has a dual-runner design which is great for more low-end torque. They came out of GVR4's. They did NOT all come stock with an "EvoIII" turbo as stated above. The one I just bought and installed in my car came out of an automatic and had a 13g. Most actually come with the same 14b we have here. A FEW come with the 510cc injectors and a 16g turbo, very few. There is nothing else mechanically different. To whomever asked, yes, you're clutch will work. Clutches in our cars are universal between the generations. It's just the flywheel that's different.

jaredgsx: There's no such thing as a "true cyclone motor". Any motor from Japan out of a GVR4 or Evo1-3 will fit in our cars w/out modification.

It won't fit into a 1G evidently, but no problems on a 2G. Read more than the first couple sentences.

Pretty self explanatory. The coil pack doesn't fit on my cyclone like it did on my stock 2g, so I was just wondering where people mounted theirs, preferably without relocating anything else. Thanks.

I got mine with my JDM motor, and it had the 1G coilpack on it. I think that would be the easiest route to go, and then get 1G plug wires.

Save yourself the trouble and if you have the means upgrade to the coil on plug setup that slowboy offers. If not I believe you have to weld the mount to the mani.

If you need to just put it on and drive it, then as long as you can get it lined up with one of the threaded bolt holes and get it down sturdy the car will be fine untll you an get an upgraded coil pack. What I did with mine was line up one of the upper left holes that are on where the 2g pack would be and bent that piece of metal that sticks up on the left corner of the pack harness off so it would let it be wedged in and be bolted down close to the same area where the 2g pack would be so then you also don't need longer wires!

Guys, there's a spot to mount it already on the manifold. It's on the driver's side as you look at it from the front, and down and to the back corner of the mani.

Your correct on forged internals, just as the 4g63t without the cyclone intake, they have them too, with out forged internals and still having a turbo, youre digging yourself a hole. I'm sure you knew this, maybe i just read it wrong.
