whats up gurus, well i have a question that i would like to clear up...

for about the past year or so is when i started getting into the DSM world....i've had my run ins, and have learned alot through researching on this site and some other...but heres the thing i would like to understand better about....to my understanding, the stock 2g MAS is very restrictive...i have been told to use the 3' GM MAF and have been mentioned about the GM MAFT....to my understanding (someone PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG) the GM MAF will baiscally work the same way as the MAS except for its less restictive and can be placed past the BOV....and the MAFT is baiscally used for tunning purposes..am i correct on this??

i'm asking because i plan on buildin a 6 bolt shortly and i want to get this cleared up as i would like to us the MAF behind the BOV but i'm not sure if the MAFT is needed...for tunning purposes i am using the DSMLink so i really dont think i would need the MAFT to tune with...is this correct?? can someone please clear this up....thanks

BTW...i have researched about this, but have never really found a definitive answer...

gm maf is less restrictive than the 2g. It can be used to tune, but I would reccomend an afc to help things along or in your case dsmlink. I have mine mounted down stream of the bov(blow thru) and it alows me to vent to atmoshere. I like the set up. In your case I would just set the maft to stock settings and adjust with the dsmlink.

The stock 2G MAS is good for about 400 HP. The MAFT is needed to use a GM MAF on DSM cars. You can't hook up the MAF without the MAFT. Since you have DSMLink put all the settings on the MAFT to 0 and tune with DSMLink.

The stock MAS measured air temp, baro pressure, and frequency of air to calculate the amount of air ( air mass ). The GM MAF measures air mass directly so there is only a single signal. The GM MAF Translator translates this single signal into 3 different signals for the stock ECU to read ( temp and baro are held steady and Frequency is changed to get the right air mass count ).

So yes you can tune with the Translator and yes it is necessary to run it if you want to use the GM MAF.

ohh ok, i understand it now....cool thanks for clearing it up guys

so if i zero out the MAFT it would be the same as running the MAF w/out any sort of compensation?

Yes, you will be using the MAFT to just "translate" and convert the signal and be doing all your tuning using DSMLink.

got it....thanks guys for clarifying that....wasn't sure how it worked but you guys have come thru again....thanks

p.s if some of you guys have some pics of the way yours is mounted....post em up :thumb:
