My car has developed for a while, a knock issue, in which, it displays knock erratically. It doesn´t need to be driven, just by being at idle, and reving, i can see up to 43 counts of knock. Obviously this used to retard my timing way too much and make my car feel slow. I finally got tired of testing, and i grounded the knock sensor (yea i know its just a bandaid). It worked nice, but i tried in in a friends car, and the ground for some reason didn´t work, it still displayed high knock while reving in neutral. Now to the point: I told my friend to buy a knock sensor, since its the first part that was suspected to be bad, since we are both having the same problem, and i thought, maybe he could give it to me a couple of days to tune my car and move on (btw, his knock sensor was bad when he bought the car, so he had the knock cell on). The problem, is that his brand spanking new knock sensor, shows the same problem, while reving in neutral, it can go as high as 43 counts. Now, the car feels pretty fast, but it falls at around 5000k, with a 14b. If its knocking so high, why it feels fast at 10 psi? i havent done a log to see how its pulling timing, and thats the next to do. I have searched for a long time, and i believe i have even posted this problem before, but i haven´t found a single member, that has the same problem than us, with a new knock sensor. The only thing, im thinking about, is that its probably lifter tick, since we both have loud lifters, but im not sure if that would be the culript. I know, for sure, that this is not real knock, its phantom knock. I know, its bad to ground the knock sensor, because we would be blind tuning basically with the logger, but if we hook up a wideband we tune along with AFR and move on with knock. Is there any way, to stop the knock sensor cel to come on and display 0 knock without having it grounded? i read somewhere, that a resistor might do the trick. This is in case we never find the reason for high knock counts. His car is completly stock btw. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. :thumb:

try a can of seafoam, i was having the same problem recently, tried several things. finally used a can through the BOV and FPR hoses, then went and ran it and i have no more knock. before it would hit 43 anytime i tried taking off normally. timing might need to be retarded a little bit. also anytime the computer sees knock whether its actually there or not will retard the timing,

Yea, i know it retards timing. Ill see if i can find seafom around here. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

What a/f are you running? 93 gas? You have 550s and are using an AFC? If so, what are you Hi values? Did you verify your base timing @ 5*? These are 1g pistons in a 1g right?

43 knock count and I are good friends too. Your timing belt is in good shape? It may be worth your time to pull the cover and check tension (and autotensioner displacement - this was my problem). I dont know what knock count noisy lifters offer, but you might as well replace them and get things quiet for $85 from ebay (get the 3rd revision with the larger orifice).

Toss some bpr7s in for good measure. First thing is check your base ignition timing and go from there. Let us know what you find
