PCV to straight fitting... now it smokes

I replaced my PCV valve with a straight fitting and put a breather filter on the hose until I get a catch can. I capped off the intake manny nipple that the line would normally run to. I did this in hopes of removing crankcase pressure thats causing a small crank in my valve cover that is putting oil EVERYWHERE. Anyways it didnt work and right after I put that fitting on it now smokes a good amount out of the exhaust at idle and when I first take off. Why would it do that after only messing with the PCV valve?
 
I am talking about the PCV valve on the top of the valve cover. I left the breather line on the side connected to the intake. I just put a fuel filter "catch can" in the line.

I should also mention this has a brand new shortblock from mitsu with about 1200 miles on it. Also the valve seals were replaced the same time the shortblock was put in.
 
If I understand correct. You put a straight fitting in place of the PCV and capped off the nipple on the intake that the PCV hose normally runs to. Then you left the hose on the side of the valve cover connected with a filter in the line. From my understanding you are suppose to put the filter on the hose that is coming off the side of the valve cover. You shouldn't use a straight fitting in place of the PCV if you are not recirulating the hose from the side of the valve cover to a catch can to a hose to the straight fitting.
 
^^^^ that is a bad idea also.. for this reason

you intake manifold has vacuum going through it so when you get oil in that "catch can" it sucks it up into your intake manifold.. the pvc valve is there for a reason leave it there. there is aboslutly no reason to remove it..

i know the taboo speed shop diagrams said to remove it but when i removed my emmission stuff on both my gst and tsi wiht the catch can it smokes like a biotch.. with the pcv valve there no smoke.. and a few other dsmers who have removed the emissions have expereinced the same ordeal.
 
someone really should ammend that diagram on taboo speed shops website. or unless there is a wiseman on here that can explain why it does that..or what bennifet doing that has.. i could see how in theory it would keep oil out of your intake manifold.. but wiht the check valve in there not very much is gettin in anyhow..
 
The purpose of removing the PCV valve is supposed to be added crankcase ventilation under boost. Since the PCV valve is closed under boost.

That is how I have mine. I was just going by what is on taboo site. I didn't know people were having problems setting it up that way..

I would think that just a filter on the valve cover breather would be worse than the stock setup. With the hose attached to the intake pipe there is a vacuum pulling the gasses out of the breather line. Vented to the atmosphere relies on just the pressure in the system.

I have my PCV Valve removed and a straight barb in its place. I also Capped off the intake manifold where it used to run to. And I have both Valve Cover vents going to my catch can. The way I see it is that there is no possible way for the oil to now return to the motor and burn causing smoking.
 
How would be there pressure if they are both venting?
Pressure will equal out.
That and many cars, mostly old V8s would always just vent no problem, now I know our cars are not V8s but stuff like this all works just the same....or so I thought?

I was experimenting with this and plugged the side tube just to see what would happen :D

Blew oil out the HP cap and the somewhat lose cover bolts in the sparkplug valley. Oil was getting into the sparkplugs. even hit the clutch master cylinder :laugh:. But in closing the hole in the stock intake I have gained a noticible difference in power. Now that side nipple is "breathered" and I still have the HP increase.

I believe the fact that I have a real cold air setup with a k&n, the factory tube was effectively leaching my power. I am experimenting with the other hose mods and such so I can build a guide on my site that is more detailed than taboo.
