passing cali smog with a 2.5 inch downpipe

ok..heres my question. has anyone actually first-hand passed california smog with a 2.5 inch downpipe on a GST or GSX? i guess 1g or 2g doesnt matter. but im looking for first hand..not your friends friends monkeys purple robot. if you have like a close buddy has done it and passed let me know too....

the reason i ask is i just bought a GST with 2.5 all the way back from the turbo. it has a cat-bypass (yeah i know i have to get a cat) but should i be looking for a stock down pipe, or do you think the 2.5 will fly. i know its techically illegal (wont pass visual inspection) but im not worried about inspection as much as actually passing the numbers...

i passed SMOG with a 2.5-3" Turbo-back with a Hi FLow Cat but BARELY. Next time im just gonna put my stock cat on and i should pass with no problem

how about this one...does anyone know if smaller cats burn the impurities from the exhaust better? i could go hi-flow...or stock..or stick one from an old honduh civic DX i have sitting around!

whats up dude, I have a magnaflow high flow cat and my muffler guy said that it would not pass smog because it only had 2 bricks inside rather than 3 so he told me if I get an OBD2 cat then it should pass no problem. The problem is that OBD2 cats are 2x the price?.

There is a specific Magnaflow 3" hi-flow cat for California that magnaflow claims is carb / smog legal. Do you have that one? or the universal?

no I don't have the magnaflow cat that is CA smog legal. I bought the stupid universal 2 brick cat that is cheaper and not compatable with obd2.

most cars went to OBD2 in 96. i'm almost* certain your 95 is obd1.[Mistaken.] so you should be fine right? what about using a 94 civic DX cat. the inlets on them are like 1.5!

so whats my best bet?

thanks for the info guys...passing cali smog isnt my forte. i'd usually shell out extra $$ to pass...but this car will be my DD. i'm planning to make it 100% smog legal. i need at least ONE car i dont have to worry about...anyone have their stock cat laying around?

You should pass no problem, i have a full 2.5" exhaust with magnaflow high flow sandard cat and i passed soo well that the numbers were way lower than the average for that car.

Nope. Most 95's are OBD2. You can tell by if your car has the second o2 sensor in the back. Mine does

All '95s are OBD2. It was one of the first cars to be saddled.... er, equipped with it.

I passed with a 3" turboback exhaust with a 3" cat. Tech never said a word about it.

...and what is this about 2 and 3 brick cats? I've got a Car-Sound catalytic converter (magnaflow) that I bought off ebay for like $50 something. I could have orderded the CARB version for some ridiculous price like $250ish, but the guy I ordered from said they're the same. One just doesn't have a CARB #. Anyway, I passed with it on there.
