So when i bought my car the guy said it had a computer to read codes when the check engine light went on. I think it could be used as a logger as well but the problem is it wasn't hooked up and i dont know how or where to hook it up for it to be used as a logger....it is a Palm III xe and this is what the wires and all the hook ups look like....

Get MMCD if it doesn't have it. If it does, its in the menu along the top. Hook up the three cables to the diagnostic port by your left foot, down by the fuse box. There are 3 pins that need to be hooked up.

1,12, and the one that is two to the left (above if you're looking at it on the car) of the 1 terminal. Try different combinations until MMCD or Pocketlogger (if it has it) works.

The problem is that you don't know which of the 3 wires (with spade connectors) is what. If you have a multimeter, and if your cable is the same as the schematic in the link above, you could try to disconnect the two RS232 plugs and find the two wires with very low resistance between them. Those will be the two wires which go to P10 and P12 (in the schematic in the above link) in the ALDL connector (the white plug next to the fuse box). That means that the other wire is the "DATA" wire (in the schematic) that goes to P1 in the ALDL connector. Since both of the other wires are just grounds, it shouldn't matter which goes to P10 and P12 in your ALDL connector.

Another option is to go to RadioShack™, buy the parts, and make your own cable. Then you'll know what wire goes where.

Finally, you could do a search on the forum for "logger cable" (in quotes) and see if you can find anything else more helpful.

MMCd is a logging software package that you can install on your PDA for free. The link I included describes where to get it.

Also, if you look at the pictures in the link, you should be able to locate that connector.

EDIT: Here's the MMCd link: http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/ and it also has some pictures of the ALDL connector and what pin is what.
