I want to paint aftermarket taillights for my 99 eclipse . I havent ordered them yet but I want to get the ones that have 3 O's on each side not including the center piece. Does anyone have these or know if these can be done? Can they be taken apart so I can paint the chrome or cf parts to match the factory paint ? What do ya'll think about this project ? :thumbdown

No, they seal different than headlights. Even if you manage to take them apart, when you put them together they will fog bad. They do offer an alternative however. Tail light covers. Likea so. (9D9MITSURS)

I took mine apart and painted the inside of the lens a translucent red...looks like stock during the day and looks sweet at night. Stick them on an aluminum foil wrapped pan and put them in the oven for about a minute. When you pull it out, try and pry between the lens and the tail-light. The glue dries pretty quick, so you have to go through the process a few times to get it off. Just be patient as the lenses crack pretty easily. Once its all done, its worth it.

Well, thats' the first time I've heard of a successful sealing. All the ones I helped my friends with have fogged. I may have to consider doing this now.

Thanks...no, I haven't had any leaking or fogging problems yet. When I got them brand new, my passenger side one fogged alot, but since I opened them up its never come back. They have been on my car for about a month and a half and have survived the Michigan winter thus far.

I was actually curious about this as well. What did you use to seal them back up? What kinda glue...and what temperature was the oven. 1 minute at 250 is different than 1 minute at 500. I have an old pair of altezzas with peeled chrome inside. I was considering playing with them.
