Painting Door Panels

Ok, I have a 1G project car I'm trying to clean up by painting the interior. My question is how do you re-attach the door handle part (not very descriptive). It seems to be held on by rivets. Its' the black piece where the door handle, locks, and window controls are. Anyone ever replace them or swap them?

i think the plastic is actually melted into a flat top so it stays .. i used small screws with a washer worked great just make sure you get the screw directly in the center or it will crack and then you are up sh*t creek... hope this helps

I think I understand what you did. Basically you broke off the melted flat tab when removing the plastic part (where the door handle, locks, and window controls are) from the door and used the screw method to reattach it. Looking at the panel from the back side, place a washer in line with where the melted flat tab was, insert a screw through the washer (to have adequate surface area) to the plastic "post" where the flat tab broke off from. Am I way off base, or is this how you did it? Did you use a small enough screw to fit the center of that "post"? Any idea on what side you used? Pics would help too, if you have any available.

i would have pics but i dont have that car anymore... but yes that is exactly how i did it.. they were small screws so it wouldnt break through the plastic.
