Since my vehicle is in many many parts right now I decided to clean everything I could get ahold of. The dipstick tube cleaned up ok in the parts washer but the finish on it is a bit sad looking. It looks like a zinc type finish...I don't think its paint. I can't quite recall how much heat this thing has to handle or how close it is to the turbo exhaust.
Will 500* engine paint stay on this thing?
Anyone ever paint theirs and have good lasting results?

If its too close to the turbo or exhaust I'll just leave it as it:(

I've painted mine with duplicolor high temp paint with no real issues. Hit it with 3m pad and spray it. They are coated but over time it starts to look crappy.

Thanks man! I'll probably sand it and hit it with the engine paint I've got.

Try out some of the 1200* paint. I used that to paint my manifold heat shield black. It actually came out with a slight brown tint. Look in my gallery for a better look, I think it looks fine. It's lasted now almost 5000 miles and no chips or flakes or anything.

^ Very nice Derek. How many coats did you apply? What did you use for a base?

I've been fine with using their high temp paint if I stay away from the clear coat. For some reason it makes my car smell like ass and quickly turns painted parts brown.. but if you use just the high temp paint it should be fine.

The hotter the temperature the paint can withstand, the better. Have you considered paying a little extra and powdercoating it?
