Looks good until the heat from the exhaust bakes it off.:| What kind of paint did you use? I don't think I've ever seen a bright color like that be able to handle the heat.:toobad:

Looks good! You planning a whole bright green these for your engine bay?

On second notice, he's running N/A i don't think he'll have the heat problem as bad as the TSI does.

Wow that's bright!! Lol. Paint job looks good, but if you didn't use any kind of engine enamel or heat resistant paint, it will burn/chip right off.

It's just basic engine enamel from DupliColor. Rated to 550 degrees. And I coated the inner side with clear engine enamel just to be safe. It's so bright because I spent roughly two hours polishing it to a high sheen before cleaning it to paint.
And yes, it's for my friend, but I'm doing up her whole engine bay in lime green. Anyone know of a supplier for hoses in lime green for this specific model? Does Samco make them?

This paint is gonna burn, I've tried that when I was NT and my beautiful blue paint became black and all cracked. Sorry but you exhaust temp will raise way higher than 550F.

Did you apply it as directed and wait for it to cure? I'm waiting a week to put it back on to make sure the paint is totally cured. I also put quite a covering of the clear enamel on the inner side.
Are there any other paints that will withhold the exhaust heat or is powdercoating the only way to go?

there are directions on that page on how to cure it on the car. seems much easier than the oven too.

Yeah, but that's pretty much for headers. The heat sheild itself would never reach the 600* temp required for curing in a short 20min idle session, or ever for that matter. Oven curing would definitely make the curing process more controlled and would probably make the paint hold up better.

I bake valve cover in my household oven with no problem. I only use 200 degrees for 12 hours. But thats valve covers.

I dont think it will burn, but have you considered using high temp tape on the underside of the sheild?

Being that the heat shield is for a N/T it wont get as hot as a turbo shield. I believe it still will flake off or discolor horribly. Since you like that color, put it on and take a pic. That way if the paint gets ruined, you will always have the memory of your green heat shield.

I really like that color though:coy:

I thought about painting my exhaust mani cover but I want something like the jmf ones but can't find anything on the low

I dunno. I've come across some illegit sites that sell parts. Don't wanna throw my money into the wind is all

Leon would ask that.

And, I wanna put my two pennies in here real quick. I've used that VHT Flameproof paint that goes up to some ridiculous number like 2000 degrees on the GST. I put it on the manifold heat shield, the hot side of the turbo, and the o2 housing. This was over a year ago. Not a single flake. :)

Hmm. Worst case, if this DupliColor flakes or burns off, I'll clean it off and use VHT. =)
Thanks for the input.
