What is the difference between painting the interior pieces VS using a vinyl dye. Paint wise I have used Fusion and had great factory like finishes, but now I am to the console lid which is gray and wanted to know what best would turn this to black?

Paint is sprayed on and covers just the surface. Dye penetrates and changes the object's color.
Plastic, metal and anything that cannot absorb color is painted on. Fabric, leather, and other porous things can be dyed.

So when you here of people dyeing plastics, that really isn't going to work?

Well vinyl is actually a fabric cover with a acrylic (plastic) coating. Thats why you kind of clean it like your plastic panels. Also clean you panels and viynl parts with a 1:1 ratio of alcohol to distill water you get the really clean or use a wax and grease remover.
