2G paint my car

so i have a project 99 eclipse gs i plan on painting mustang grabber blue. do you have any suggestions on painting because im doing it myself and want to know what i should look out for when painting. thanks in advance!

Make friends with your local paint rep. Listen to everything they tell you. If you have questions ask. Don't assume. It will save you a lot of heart ache. Ppg is a great paint system to use for a beginner. Our anyone that doesn't have a lot of experience. Wax and grease remover between body work and primer. Wax and grease between primer and sealer. Paint one light coat. Wait 15 minutes. Then next coat. Wait 15 minutes then third coat. Wait 15 minutes then first coast of clear. Then 15 and so on. 3 clear should be good. Time will vary if your using water based instead. I wouldn't recommend water based for a beginner. It takes a little practice to use water based. If you have any questions. Should look into Atlantic Blue if you want to do a Ford color, or Electric Blue off the Evos. I think both of those would compliment a 2g over the bright ass grabber blue IMHO.

Almost everything is in the prep. If you see any imperfection now, it will be 10x more visible after paint. Also im assuming you wont be painting it in a booth, so buy a ton of tack rags and be sure to wipe any dust off between coats. And don't be afraid to go heavy on the clear coat. It is a lot easier to cut and buff out runs than it is to get rid of orange peel, and you will end up with a lot glossier finish. Good luck!

If your doing this in your garage get some sheet plastic and build a clean room to do your painting in. Also wash out the garage. You want clean clean clean. Prep is number 1. If your lazy with cleaning and taping it will show in the paint.
Have good light in your paint area.

If you have never painted before you should practice painting some on scrap pieces of whatever you have laying around. A spare fender? Pieces of plywood to do practice body work on. etc. Try to make them smooth just like a car panel. Try spraying them flat like the hood and roof sits and vertical like the door. That will help you get a feel for how the gun sprays and how the paint lays. Better to have a run on a practice piece so you can get it right on the real piece. Spraying on a test panel will also allow you to get used to the settings on your spray gun and get them fine tuned.

Spend as much time sanding as you can. make it perfect before your prime it.
