Paint job cost?

Anybody here got their car repainted custom? I don't mean stipid theme paint jobs for a show car but different color. I want to paint mine black. How much does it usually run to have a real pro paint it? I will do all the prep work myself. All it would need is final sanding/cleaning and then paint.

i did it all myself for 300, i got all the solvents and junk primer,base coats, and subaru blue wrx paint it doesnt look great but i still have to wet sand and buff and wax......

paid 3 grand for mine... they did alot of shaving work too (i did alot of prep work on my own.) its called lexus white pearl from PPG, its a white base, multi colored pearl coat (shines blueish and purplish in the sun its pretty cool.) and then a clear coat.

it was about 3k to have my old supra painted...custom red, but the car was red to begin with..that was within them doing all the work.

if you did all the prep i would estimatearound 1500-2000 for a paintjob at a rebutable place that does custom work.

Actually, it's a chain http://www.earlscheib.com/ there might be one near you. It's a step above maaco, but still not "pro" quality. I like it just fine though.

Haha, he said it'd be 75 bucks for each door jam. I figured I could get an a/f ratio gauge, or maybe a boost controller for 150 so bleh... Also, I actually kind of like the whole black/white thing, it looks cool when I pop the hood, since my valve cover is white with black lettering.

At earl scheib do they also fix the dings and dents or is that extra?

well, as usual... you get what you pay for. if you do most of the prep work yourself, i'd expect around $1500-$2000 for the paintjob. find a good shop FIRST, before you do anything. they will give you tips on how they want it prepped. don't just start sanding & then take it to a shop afterwards.
