I got a CEL light today and pulled the code, it came out to P0302 Cylinder #2 misfire. The car has HKS 264/272 cams so its always idled like..well like it has cams LOL. The car runs fine, I havnt had any issues with the way it runs, every morning it starts right up. I did replace the walbro 255 fuel pump and had my friend help me install a walbro 190 because the 255 was over running my stock FPR. Now before you say why would you do such a thing, I didnt know if the pump was bad or not so I wanted to save myself a headache and just buy a 190..not planning to buy an AFPR anytime soon, and Im really not too concerned about making serious power at the moment. This is my DD, been away from the DSM scene for 2 years, im just getting used to it again day by day.

I checked the wires which are magnecores, and they look pretty old. The gasket/body or whatever you want to call it is very chipped in most of the wires. I do have a replacement set of stock wires out of an old DSM I had..Ill try to see if the problem continues when I swap them.

My question is, could the idle of the cams throw such a code? The car only has 69,000 miles, it sat for almost 6 years with just regular startups and trips down the block and back. In 2003, the car had 52k miles on it. Im hoping the compression of the motor is good as it would just be devastating to replace anything this early..the motor sounds strong and pulls just fine.

Pull the plug and check it out. How does it look?

Might be time for a tune up!

I ordered Accel 8.0mm wires and NGKBPre7 or something like that. Im gonna replace the plugs and wires and see if it makes a difference..keeping my fingers crossed..

Does it feel like your dropping a cylinder???? Ive never felt a misfire. But I just fixed mine when this was happening. IF so Ill let you know what I did.

Your coil pack could be going bad just hasent got there yet. My wifes jeta through a missfire code but was running fine, two days later bad coil!

I havnt gotten the plugs and wires delivered yet. From what I know, the car runs absolutely smooth and pulls strong. Its just the idle occasionally that is rough. It doesnt drop below 700, it usually stays between 720-760, around 750 most of the time..sometimes higher. But when I say the idle is rough sometimes, It just sounds like what 264/272 cams would normally sound like. But I havnt noticed any power loss, it usually pulls like a mofo..but then again I havnt been hard on it at all yet.

I guess only way to find out is pull the plug, replace them with new ones and wires..if the problem persists, than I guess I better start looking into the coilpack, fuel, vaccum leaks (doubtful) and the worst case scenario, compression. I would be damned if this car has low compression cylinder #2 on a 60k miles GST, which was barely driven from 2003-2009.

Just great, my recommended shop that I ordered the plugs and wires from cant get it right for the 2nd time. They messed up on my shipping address, not putting the letter of the house that it needs to be delivered to. Last time this happened was a few years ago, I had to drive 45 minutes to my old house just to get my engine bearings..and the shop didnt do a damn thing about it but just a "sorry about that".

Now UPS will probably wonder around and either deliver it to someone else, or ill be waiting another week or more to get someting simple as spark plugs and wires. Ill probably just cancel the order..i shouldnt have to wait that long for basic maintainence parts. Ill simply just get it from a local parts store, they pricematch so im straight.

Yuppers, I pulled my coilpack and found a decent size hole in one of the coil slots. That fixedd my spudder spark feeling I had around 5k, then I found out my ecu was just a piece oof crap. ITs s amazing how one problem can show so many codes and then yu havee trouble shoot and trial and error. I was just lucky I guess. Now I have a eprom LOL.
