The Ohio Valley Region had it's 10th points event this year, it's the next to last points event of the year. As of the last event I had 524 points. The 86 Civic that ran at nationals and the only one who could take the lead had 400 points. With his win today he will have 500 points and I have to wait to see how many I accrued. It is going down to the wire this year and I'm so damn excited as I didn't expect to be in this position at the beginning of the year!

The day started as normal at 6:30 am, my roommate and I had our stuff packed the night before so all we had to do is get some breakfast and go. We arrive and change out our tires and get ready. It's 8:40am when my friend Steve in his HS Talon arrives!! He's running way late and has only 20 mins to get the car ready to make it to tech before it closes at 9am. 9:05am he manages to make it to tech and they quickly check his car and were ready to go. I've already walked the course twice and am ready to go.
The course is a simple layout with only 1 really tight turn, it looks and is fast and short. From the line you make a soft left into a chicago box, then a wide 270degree right turn. Next is a slight left into a short series of esses. Next is a kind of a decreasing radius very sharp right hander leading out to the final wide left to the finish. Most cars are in the 30 second range.

I get moved up to the first heat for clean up crew. It's still probably only 50 degrees out and the asphalt is cold and very dirty. I head out for lap 1 and take it easy as grip is non-existent. No sooner than I am back the timer breaks. We are down for an hour before they can get it fixed. They decide to start the heat over, so I get an extra lap but the tries are cold again so it helps little. After that they click us off faster than hell, I don't even have time to check my tire temps or pressure let alone get my camera setup until my 3rd run. I progress faster with each lap dropping from an early 34.5 to a last lap best of 33.5. I'm still 2.2 seconds behind the civic in my class, hopefully I can still accrue enough points.

My friend Steve takes 1st place in H Stock again in his Talon and his girlfriend who decided to run with the guys got 3rd in class!! The other Eclipse got 2nd place in STX. Again we make a decent showing and I'm the only one who didn't trophy but I'd really rather have the year end one anyway!!

1 more event to go and I will do my best to win, just need a little luck in there too! Here's the in-car from my last lap and Steve's best lap in his Talon.

Pics should be up at the end of the week.

We get 45 mins of fun runs at the end of the day, I've already put my street tires back on but my roommate offers to let me drive his 06' S2000!! All I can say is what a badass car! I was only 1 sec slower than my best time in my car in his S2000 with all season tires!!
I want an S2000!!

Awesome job. I'll definitely have to make it over there next year now that the car's being more reliable.

Meh. Stock s2ks are slow, but good handlers.

Good Luck on the final event.

I'm sure compared to a lot of the cars on this board the S2000 is no match in a straight line, but in autox that car can hang with anything!

Kyle, let me know as we might be adding a new venue to race at that is quite large allowing for huge courses!! I had hoped to make it up your way but as I realized my standings I couldn't risk missing an event here because I broke my car somewhere else. I def. want to make it to Peru next year!

Sounds awesome, so are you going to be running the laser next year? I thought I saw somewhere that you weren't.

I don't know yet...I'm still debating it. I'm really enjoying what the newer cars have to offer and it's very tempting.

Oh I know. It frustrates me to no end the times some of these guys are able to run with the newer equipment, but then again my total investment is less than their car's cost in most cases.
