Awhile ago, I bought an aftermarket exhaust manifold for my car. and in order to put the headers in, I had to take out the A/C on my 1997 talon ESI. aND before that my car never would over heat in traffic, but now it does. but I have friends that have DSM like me, and their car never overheats like mine. and they had to take out their fan as well.. and I was thinking it may be the thermostat but I'm not sure yet. I thought about everythint but i don't know.

I don't understand why you had to take the a/c and fans out to put on an exhaust manifold on. When I put m headers on I had to drain the Anti freeze because of the hose that is bolted to one of the studs. Maybe you didn't fill it back up enough. Did you get all the Air out.

I'm not sure if you are saying your fans are out or not, but without fans your car will overheat.
Checking your coolant would be the first step. You could have a pocket of air trapped. Do you hear any "gurgling noises"?
I would try draining and refilling your coolant.

i have had cars overheat because of air pockets before... the first thing to do would be airlift the coolant system. it basically puts a vacuum on the coolant system so it actually sucks the new coolant in without having any air pockets. i have fixed quite a few overheating problems that way. but it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and replace the thermostat while the coolant is drained

Old thread but my car is having the same trouble... Overheating in traffic when stopped and making "gurgling" noises upon accelleration. The only thing I've done to the car lately is put on catback and manifold. Could the manifold be making the car hotter because it doesn't have a heat-shield like the OEM mani?

I'm going to have the coolant flushed, hopefully this will solve the issue.

No, the header wont make it hotter due to no heat shield. The first thing ive done with every DSM I've bought was remove those heat shields. Check your coolant level, also you could try running it without the thermostat to see if the thermostat is bad.
