I had the same problem when i had my Greddy IC. As soon as i got my Spearco 2-120 core, i thought that would solve the problem cause the core is 4 inches less short.

That did not do anything, I dont know i cant tell from your pictures if you have the top black part of your opening bumper cut off, Like mine or like larry had, But, as soon as i did that, Everything cooled down greatly. I still use about a 60/40 mix and everything works fine, there is a huge gap for air to go above the ic. I dont know if you were ever going to do that to your bumper, but mine looks absolutely fine, and i used a dremel with a cut off wheel to do it, just make sure to wear a resperator or something that covers your mouth while doing it.

Try that and log some temps on your logger, see how it goes, If not, Try some other options

No I never cut that black strip out. I was too pissed off from cutting everything else that I decided I didnt want to trim that. Its hard trimming a freshly painted and new bumper.

I replaced the crap slim line fan yesterday and so far so good with cool temps.

I hacked the hell outta my bumper support but I still have it. My core is only 3 inches though.

Try adding a 300zx hood scoop, I heard that works well too. Good luck.

I really think its worth the time and effort to put the bumper support in, just in case the worst case scenario happens. Not to mention some insurance companies will not pay for a claim if the body shop sees the bumper support is gone.

That is my biggest worry.. Not only would your car and FMIC be trashed, but the insurance company can screw you without that in...

If you get in a front end collision, your FMIC will be trashed regardless if you have the bumper or not. It is a 5mph bumper, meaning that if you hit a wall going 5mph or less, the resulting damage will be less than a pre determined dollar amount. It really has nothing to do with "safety", its mainly an insurance thing. If you hit someone with the front of your car it is automatically your fault anyways, at least in FL.

Right, our bumper works pretty well, but that is because it uses shocks to absorb the energy of the accident. That means that it moves toward the car and… crushes the intercooler…

I am not going to fault anyone for deciding to keep the bumper, as it is safer, but not think that it will save your I/C.

If I were to get into a front end collision with my car, I have no doubts that the FMIC would he trashed, but if the bumper support is in, the insurance company can at least give me a check to get the car fixed... I'd take that over them telling me to go piss-off...

I have a greddy font mount and a fluidyne with a 180 stat with water wetter in it. main fan and just put in a slim line one. Haven't tested with the new fan in but i'm running about 206-208 city and 210-217 on highway. I hope this second fan will help. Any suggestions??

This depents on the height of your car vs. the height of the vehicle you hit.

i'm going to go ahead and say no on that one. Where I live it could be 80 one day and 32 that nite. I believe I have it fixed, I moved my intercooler down a bit to open up a 1 1/2" gap so air can get to the radiator. Seems good

I never saw the original posts TEMPS? Have you tried seeing if your original radiator is in good condition (blocked?) how close to the radiator did you mount the FMIC (air gap). Has he ever changed the thermostat. OEM fans do usually flow more air! There are a million things that will raise the idle temp in a car even a bad lot of fuel. Just look for the simple reasons first! and what ever you do dont discard the thermostat, running to cool will give you more grief with fuel mixtures, oil deposits, piston and ring wear, if the manufacturer could leave them out they would! there not there just for the heater.

but since he is overheating because the fmic is blocking most of the radiator, removing the thermostat would help, it wouldnt let the car overcool.

problem is solved, I have a fluidyne now and i lowered the intercooler a bit so air can get to the radiator. All good now.

I have a slow boy racing 3.5 inch core, and I just cut the bumper core and it fits and works fine. It took about 30min of cutting to do, also had the cut the main lower bumper cover a little to make it fit nice.
