I feel really embarrassed asking this, just because i have researched this and all and still can't determine what to do. I just drive my car around town and speed limits are high here, 55mph. So i drive about that speed and stopping from intersection to intersection. So my question is should i leave it on? of turn it off. I think the fact of the light coming up saying that o/d is off, just bugs me and i have never turned it off besides when im racing occasionally. My car is an auto btw..

Overdrive is a fancy term for 4th gear. So leave it on unless climing a hill and u need turn it off so in higher rmps in 3rd less wear on your tranny. So leave on od when your daily driving.

Just leave it on and forget about it. It actually helps you save gas since your engine is running at a lower RPM. you can turn it off if you happen to be going up a hill just to get a bit more response out of the engine/trans.

O/d Off basically means you don't want the auto trans to shift until redline in 3rd... In my gs, if I'm going 100, car will shift to 4th and keep going 100 at like 3k rpms (floored).. Now if I push o/d off, trans shifts down back into third and will hit 110-115 relatively fast from 100 (for a stock 420a anyways) LOL

No. With OD off the transmission will not shift to 4th. It will bang off of the red line but not shift. OD on just gives the TCU permission to select 4th.

With the Transmission in second the TCU will not select 3rd at any RPM. Moving the stick to drive just gives the TCU permission to select 3rd.

Same for the stick in 1st. The transmission will stay in 1st.

Did the 2G's have the "PWR/ECO" button for their automatics?

"ECO"-economy is where it engaged the lock-up torque converter after 4th gear, where ""PWR" - power disengaged the lock-up torque converter to get more shaft power.
