My cars over heating while sitting at a light. I have 2 fans and both are working at the same time, I made sure all the hoses were connected and not leaking. Any advice on to what my problem is? This started after I took my radiator out drained all the fluid from the rad an reinstalled it. After I put the new 50-50 mix in the car now runs hot an keeps raising while idling but runs normal while driving.

Are you sure put in enough coolant? (Not trying to be an a$$) Check if your tank loses coolant. Leaky plug, hole in the radiator, bad thermostat?

Do you have an after market exhaust manifold? If you have a manifold that goes very close to the radiator it will let off heat that will make the car hot when there is no air getting to it (i.e. at idle). Also could be a leak or a headgasket going bad that you don't even know about. Also just for the hell of it take the radiator cap off before you start the car and let the car idle for about 15-20 with the radiator cap off to "burp" the system.

Like said above it sounds like you have air in the system since you never had this issue before flushing the radiator. Also you could look into getting a lower temp t-stat and/or aluminum radiator if the problem continues. You could also run less antifreeze since it is summer and water cools better than antifreeze.

^^^- Agreed. Our cars find ways to hold air pockets in the coolant system. Leave the cap off and let it reach full operating temp and give it a good rev or two. Just keep topping it off until its full.

Also, make sure its parked on a flat, level surface.

This is a very similar problem i just experienced. These are the steps i took to eliminate the problem.

1. Hoses
2. Thermostat
3. TB / Water pump
4. Heater core

Turns out that my heater core had a slight leak inside the car. Not enough to give a distinct anti freeze smell or dampness though. Maybe it had something to do with the weather being colder. Once our area warmed up a bit( 70-80's), you could smell the fluid inside the car.

Swapped it out ( what a pain :banghead:) and we're good to go.:hellyeah:3

Good luck ! Hope it goes smoother than mine !

I would agree with the air diagnosis as well. I just had a similar situation occur with my 1g. Overheating at stop lights, dropped to normal temp once moving. The rapid swings from "normal" to red were what gave it away. Once cool, I opened the fill cap and proceeded to add 2.5 quarts!

Later I opened the cap, started the engine, and continued to add until full. While still running, I replaced the cap to "re-close" the system. Haven't had any more problems yet.

One other thing I would look at, is your recirculation tank. Are the hose connections good? Anything blocking the feed or return lines?

Hope this helps.

if you look at your water neck you'll see a brass piece that was a connector , id replace that piece (temp sending unit) i had a similar problem but i ended up buying a new radiator, hoes, etc... long story short and #988 later it ended up being that little brass piece, don't hurt to swap it, ill narrow your trouble shooting.
