So lately I've been having some problems with my car. Slowly I am fixing things, but then there is always something else with these damn DSMs. Couldn't find where coolant was leaking from. Those the HG went and maybe the block was lifting off the head. Did a compression test and it was good, 160,160,160,170. Still had some coolant leaking. Got a coolant pressure tester and found what hose was bad. That problem was then fixed. But now the the car will over heat after a dive. Before leaving my house the temp will be at 190 then go to 220 and climb back down to 190. take it for a drive and the car will be anywhere from 190 to 210 while driving. Then when I got home it would just keep going up. Once it got to 230 I would turn the car off. Coolant isn't leaking anymore. I'm thinking that there might be air in the coolant system. So I've tried to get it out. I would let the car run without the rad cap on and let the air come out. I would see the coolant spinning around and spray out a bit. Sometime the car will start to get hot and I have to turn the car off because I don't want to fry anything. Then I thought I had the air out and took it for another little spin. The car would not stay at 200-210. Also the coolant overflow tank it pretty full. Should that be emptied? Any suggestion on what to do? I recent put and aluminum rad and a 180 thermostat in. Also the accessory belt was replaced as well. Any suggestions for me to solve this?! Please see if you can help me

Thanks,
Stef

They are wired up to a relay to kick on. And that's what I was thinking to. Because today I noticed that when it would hit the 220 mark and come back down the fans wouldn't go on. But then I never paid attention to that when they were first put in LOL. So im guess when it hits 220, that's the thermostat opening up to let things cool down?

And yes, I was thinking maybe the water pump is no good. And yes it was swirling....I'm new to DSMs so I don't know to much.

It really does sound like air in the system since the temp jumps around so much. Did you jack up the front end when you ran it with the cap off? Also is your oil level good? There is only so many places it could leak from so try to narrow it down. Glad to hear the compression is good.:thumb:

Oh and also when you start the car to watch the swirling a good way to see if it's your water pump is defective is to watch the swirls and pinch the upper hose for a few seconds, if the swirling doesn't increase when you release than it's your water pump.

There is no more leak, I solved that problem. Tomorrow I will try the pinching method an see where that takes me, and no the car wasn't jacked up when running without the cap.

The relay for the fans went bad and the gauge for the wire wasn't large enough so it also blew a fuse.New relay is in and everything is good. Thanks for all the help. Also I redid the coolant and all the air is not out.

I just let the car run without the rad cap on. I watched it bubble the air out, and now I have no problems.

I have the same problem, I changed the thermo, rad, hoses, fans, water pump. and the temp rises and falls until eventually it boils over. Im pretty sure I have air in the system because the heat goes warm to cold etc. It doesnt help that my jmfab coolant can has no vent to the air to let the pressure out OMG this is what I need to do I guess...

Yeah when you first turn the car on let it run for a few minutes with the cap off. Watch the temp gauge and watch that it doesn't get to hot. After a few minutes all the air should be out. Try that, and any other problems just post back and we will see what we can figure out.

Those are normal operating temperatures. Go on to the next thing to panic about.
