I picked up a 89 oem turbo mirage back on 5/16/09. I worked on this car a few years ago it was a buddys car that was going to be a awd 4202 drag car but never got done. So I picked it up with out a engine (he sold the 2.3 I built for it) for free

what I did to it before when he had it
new front rotors
new front pads
new front wheel bearings
new lower ball joints
new outer tie rod ends
rebuilt 90 fwd 4g63t tranny with lsd

As for what I will be doing to it. It will be getting a 4g63 na motor and tranny out of the wifes 90 eclipse for now because I have it and her winter car is rusted out. so this will be her new winter car.

I did a lot of work to the mirage a few years ago for James so 90% of it is all new still. Since he never got it done to drive it. It just sat in his drive way for 2 years before I picked it up

I put on the 90 turbo tranny with the p.grip I put in it years ago for James. act 2100 p.p. new disk from Craig. act fly wheel. I moved the radiator mounts on the car so I can run a honda 1/2 size in the car. Put the engine in I got all the mounts for the mirage but the front roll stop mount so I used the one from the 90 eclipse and welded on some flat steel to make it work. I started to hook every thing up on the car. I also cut the engine mount off and the most of the power steering bracket to clean it up a little bit.

we got everything hooked up. picked up a starter from Craig. Came to find out the fly that I got with it was a act awd fly wheel so the tranny came back out. took us all of 20mins to pull it all back out and get the clutch and fly off. I

Polished s.s. coolant over flow tank for 35.00. Got it for the hatch back to get rid of the crappy oem plastic one. Kevin also picked the same one up.

Ali found a really cool hot rod style shift knob for the hatch new with the adaptor so it would screw right on for 26.00. it is made by gennie shifter

some the parts came off the short block that was not needed that came with it.
the awd fly (reused the awd act fly)
the 91 turbo water pipe (reused the n/t water pipe)
the power steering pump(still on the car)
the Alt (reused the new one)
the a/c bracket (no a/s on the car)

picked up the bottom end for 450.00. I just wanted the car back together and running right now. I will still rebuild the bottom end that came out of the car. with the 1g rods and evo 9 pistons. Will go on the shelf as a spare engine.

here is the 4g63 n/t that came out of the car
The oil cooler line blew and pumped all the oil on the the freeway. fixed it and it ran for awhile to get it home and move it around. the oil pump ended up going out and destoying the balance shafts taking out the b.s. belt. It then took out the timing belt and destoying the head and pistons. Also the crank got tossed to. It need to be turned and I will not run a turned crank in a 4g63

now to the new stuff. I have 90% of the parts to put a turbo set up on the car. I think it is funny since it is a oem 4g61t car and it has been a na car since I put it together even with the built engine and built head.

first off I traded off my zentronics wideband for a maft translator, extension harness and new gm mas and 400.00 cash

picked up a turbo from a buddy that picked up a auto gsx 2g to swap all his drag car parts into. Kid said it was a big 16g when he got the car. but when I picked it up it was a mhi evo 3 16g. also got a 2g o2 housing with it that is really a evo 3 o2 housing and all the lines and s.s. feed line for 280.00

thought I still had a manifold laying around but I sold it :( So from my same buddy I picked up a 2g mani that ended up also being a evo 3 mani for 20.00
IMG_9676.jpg

IMG_9675.jpg

also picked up a socked and rebuilt 90 eprom ecu for 130.00 shipped off of dsmlink
IMG_9674.jpg

I will be using the fmic I had on the talon, The shorty fmic piping that I made for the evo, and a 3in intake I made for the evo.

Still need to pick up a set of injectors, and a tial bov since that is what the piping I made for the evo is flanged for.

few new parts
got a brand new tial bov for 150.00
DSC02859.jpg

also got a brand new forced performance j-pipe for 40.00
DSC02858.jpg

have had the turbo on the car for awhile

changed things up a bit with the car
db performance mbc
db performance custom eprom chip
dejon tool 3in intake pipe
k&n filter
new heater core,t.stat, and rad cap
fic 850cc injectors
put in a new pass side axel
put in a new alt.
new p.s. and alt belts

still have to put in the 255 wally pump and the buschur racing afpr and gauge when the tank is not full

used the shorty piping I made for the evo 3. just had to shorten up the hot side pipe.
DSC03074.jpg

Also had to totaly rebuild the FP j-pipe since it was for a 2g install kit.
DSC03075.jpg

just used the boost gauge I found in the garage also found the shift boot for the car that I got last summer then lost in the garage.
DSC03071.jpg

DSC03072.jpg

the fmic moved the lic plate to the side
DSC03073.jpg

also put on one of the pink valve covers today
DSC03076.jpg

went to u pull it yesterday to try to find a new gauge cluster surround plastic but it was broken worse than mine. but the car was red so I grabbed the front bumper. the car was a 1.5 auto.

took the lip off my bumper drilled all the holes in the new one and put the lip on it is now fully bolted on unlike the bumper on the car that was all cut up and the lip was held on by a few of the mounts.

got it put on all masked off and painted the black since it was all faded out and most of it was gone. the bumper was repainted at one time also

ready for winter now till it sells
IMG_20111118_163527.gif

The car is as far as I am going to take it now. It has been a fun little D.D. for the past few years. But it is now up for sale. I am trying to cut down on cars still.
so far this year I sold
93 mirage evo 1 swap as a shell
97 awd spyder as a shell
95 talon parted out and scrapped

so I am down to
98 awd spyder
95 evo 3
01 mirage sedan
89 turbo mirage hatch
51 mercury m-1 truch w/sbc400

Ahh really nice man. Very sleeper looking and really really clean for an 89. BTW, just out of curiosity, how much are you looking to sell it for?

I would've just slapped a turbo motor in from the get go. You only need about 400hp to own a lot of cars on the road.

It has a semi built bottom end and a built head on it. Unless you ment just a bone stock long block.
Don't need to make 400 on it since it is just a d.d. And still gets 30mpg. I have my other cars for big power and fun with.
