Hey guys, well the next stage on my car is going to be a new exhaust system, I've started looking around ebay for some parts, but before I order anything I wanted to get opinions on the parts I'm looking at... So if anyone has used these or knows anything about them please let me know what you think about them, thanks

Cat-back: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=8036277388&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

High-Flow Cat: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-9...036494121QQcategoryZ33629QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Header: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-9...036580248QQcategoryZ33631QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Are there parts that are better than these? and I want to make sure these will all fit together properly and make sure these are the only parts I need.

Thanks for the help

I know it says it wont rust, but you never know, especially with a "Greddy style" knockoff. It may rust at the welds, or at the hangars. On the other hand, it may not, and it may be a great exhaust.

This is the risk you run with offbrand parts.

Also, is all this 50-state legal? Can you pass inspection with em? Better ask before you order.

As far as the header goes, of course, if you plan on going turbo just save your money and skip the header.

alright i wasnt sure if it was a knock-off i guessed that it was, and i would prefer to have a known name, I do plan on going turbo but no time soon at all, it will still be a few years before that happens

As far as the exhaust components go:

1. The catback looks fine. Even if only the can is stainless, aluminized steel will last for many years. You could also buy a Magnaflow muffler, stop by an exhaust shop and have them mandrel bend you a 2.5" cat back in stainless.
2. The header has a poor design at the connector. You want a flanged connector since these will seal tighter. I had one similar to this on my 95 GS and I had to have it welded to stop the exhaust leaks.
3. The high flow cat in the picture is nothing more than a straight pipe. Definitely not emissions legal. Go with a Catco 2.5" high flow and you'll maintain your low end torque while providing better flow.

Let us know how it goes,

Andy

another member of this forum has actually offered me a great price on a greddy evolution exhaust and a pacesetter high-flo cat, used and needs hangars welded on the cat, but i think i will probably go with that

will headers do very much for performance of the car staying N/A

Headers will give you more top end flow and less restriction. Typically, it means the motor will breathe better in the higher RPM's. It all depends on whether you rev high often and is therefore based on your driving style.

Try the catback and highflow and see what you think. If you'll be adding a turbo in the next couple of years, it may not be worth it to add a header since you'll need to remove it anyway. It's basically your call.

Good luck,

Andy

alright thanks, i think Ill just stick with the cat and cat-back, does anyone know if pacesetter's cat will pass emissions?

The Pacesetter looks like a real cat and not a test pipe so it should work out just fine and allow you to pass emissions.

Good luck and take some pics when she's all done,

Andy

You should be very happy with the Greddy Evo Exhaust, I was. The header on ebay is a very cheap design obviously. You will most likely have leaks with the coupling you see in the picture. If you really want one look for one with traditional flanges.

To make the exhaust last longer since its used. Get some high temp paint and paint the flanges black. the flanges are what start to rust first. If you look for POR-15 on the internet, the High temp coating is really nice, i use it on my 3" cat and it still has not formed rust. Just food for thought it you want this to last a long time in case you dont upgrade.

No idea on the pacesetter Cat. If it has a honeycomb in it then your fine. Most low dollar cats are really nothing more than Resonators. They do not act as a catalytic at all. you will throw Emmisions codes and lose a small amount of performance as well as gas mileage.

Who cares about gas mileage right?

Terry

if it is like the cat on pacesetter's website, then it does have honeycomb...

Another question, does anyone have any pics of a 2g eclipse with the evolution exhaust on it?

I have the Evo2, had it before turbo, still have it now, and I love it no matter what. Here's a pic:

djXternal, why are you concerned with emissions? We haven't had them in Florida for quite a while. Unless you're just being a good environmentalist... :)

im concerned because this summer i will be moving to california

Ouch, that's probably the worst state to own a modified car... (sorry Cali, but it's true). You had me wondering if Tampa imposed local emissions laws. ROFL

yea I kno it is, but I'm gonna be going to school for automotive fabrication at Wyotech in sacramento, I'll probably only live there fro about a year and a half

All I can say is people in California can not drive for shit. Especially in SoCal. Good thing for you that you're just there for school. You do not have to register your car in California, thus you get to wave at all the poor bastards in line for smog. Be sure to keep your car insured and always have your student ID handy right next to your out-of-state DL. A campus parking permit in plain site is a plus too. If a cop pulls you over, he'll know what's up.

People from Calie like coming to Arizona for school. They don't have to do emissions even though we all do (those of us who are not living in Arizona for school). You are only there for school. After that, you're moving back home, so the car stays registered there. Class dismissed.

Even then, I have a buddy with a 2.4L turbocharged ESi that goes to Wyotech up there right now. He's having a blast. Last I heard, he was fabricating a custom front cross-member which would allow a 2.4 swap without any modifications to the downpipe or oil pan with additional provisions for an undercar aero system to pull heat out of the bay. Cool shit. Why did I go to DeVry, again? Oh yeah. I'm a nerd. :p

ok being able to not do emissions would be nice... it looks like i might end up going to the WyoTech campus in pennsylvania now though, mainly because they offer another clss that I'd like as well as dorms that would be much cheaper than an apartment in cali

Ain't that the truth. Good luck with that man. :rocks:

As would triple-bypass heart surgery. Like everyone else in the country thinks, California is nutso. :p Great place to visit, but I feel sorry for all the poor bastards who enjoy modding cars out there. Unless it's a domestic V8 that's 30+ years old, it's a target.

My over all advice on the exhaust for your NT is to look for the most value. If you want a big name brand, see if you can't find a good condition used part. If you're buying new, get something off-brand. Replacement piping is cheap and you can fix it up down the road if you have to. $500 is too much to spend on an exhaust for one of these cars, imo.
