I just bought a Bullseye SMIC with the piping for my 2g (still with stock T-25:cry:) for $50! Has anyone ever used an upgraded side mount? If so did you notice a big difference?

Excellent price. Yes, many members have used upgraded smics. I'm still a T-25 warrior and I changed some other things at the same time I added my dejon tool big smic.

Just out of curiosity, did you do a search to see if anyone out of 130,000 some odd members had used an smic before?

If you have a logger you will be able to tell if there are any[ok, not any] improvements. Do a before and after log and tell us what you think of your new core.

I know my buddy moved so i went to his parents house to look at it and was shocked when he told me $50 and it was mine! No I didnt first thing i though to do was just make a post. (last time it will happen) I have to do some research on loggers i have very very little knowledge on them.

Before about 2005, there were tons of smic stuff out there. The supra SMIC was a common upgrade. Then there were about 4-5 aftermarket upgrades available.

Back then a decent FMIC was $1000+ and most people were still on a 14b/16g. Now everybody and there brother runs a 50trim or bigger, and a ebay FMIC is cheaper than a upgraded SMIC.

So obviously the appearance of aftermarket SMIC's has dwindled.

For a smaller turbo its a great upgrade, as it doesn't interfere with the cooling system, and it most will flow/cool plenty for a 14b 16g setup.

Wow $1000 is crazy compared to what you can get them for now. Im thinking of trying to fab up a shroud to direct some air flow to it.

Those SMIC are great (I have both the big Dejon SMIC and Bulleye one, as a spare), they are about the same size side to side although the Bulleye one is chromed to avoid the elements to damage it. With a Big T28 or a 16g you'll definitely feel a difference. They cool quite well and keep the piping to a minimum allowing for quicker spool (which is increased as well because those turbos are quick to spool already). You'll like it ;)

50$ is a great deal by the way, mine were way more than that! AutoX guys usually look for them if you ever want to sell it.

Best write-up for a duct for big smics, probably best doing it out of fiberglass though, lighter and less dangerous on the front of a car (I did mine in fiberglass)

I know, only $50! I brought it home and washed it and all the piping I was so excited. I have to wait to put it on though since the upper pipe has a flange for a 1g BOV, and i don't have any couplers for it. Thanks for the link i'm going to check it out in a second. My front bumper is trashed and flops around because my fenders have rust on them so i can bolt it up.

No problemo, also remember that when you install it you'll want to cut a hole in the wheel well splash guard (behind the smic) and cover it up with metal mesh. Increases the flow on the back and allows for easier passage of air, and thus better cooling. If you ever outgrow the small turbos, addition of Meth/Water injection can help you out. Upgraded SMIC's are undermined too much. In addition, unlike an FMIC you won't block the air going to your radiator allowing for better cooling of your radiator :) your car will thank you on hot days.

I ran over a sign a while ago and it mangled up the fender, bumper, headlight, and ripped out the splash guard. (bad night) So i need to get new fenders (both rusted where the bumper bolts in anyways) so i have something solid to mount my bumper to and fab up a splash guard. I will use the mesh idea to help increase the air flow. I never thought about FMIC's blocking the radiator increasing operating temp. Those 90+ degree days sucked bad enough for me in the car, i cant imagine how my car felt!
