ok well.. i have a 1g crushed BOV/DV whatever you wanna call it..

well i was wondering if i vent it out so its running open atmosphere and cap off the intake hose.. what kinda probs will i run into..

no problems... you gain power..

also i hear.. you LOSE power.. and you will leak boost and you have a weird idle and could die as the rpms fall like when your pullin up to a light or rev it up.

so can someone please explain this to me..

on the side note.. im all stock as it comes to the IC PIPES.. intake hose etc.. and im still running stock filter but without the box. have it set up like a open element filter. and this is in my 90 GSX..

Unless you have a MAFt setup, do not vent your BOV to the atmosphere.

If you need a refresher on why it's a bad idea: The MAS/MAF counts the air entering the intake. It talks to the ECU: "Hey ECU, I'm sending 58 units of air to the engine, so you better put in the right amount of fuel for it all, okay?" And the ECU says: "Okay, lemme look in my little fuel maps here... got it." All fine and dandy, right? Then the BOV opens and vents some of that air that the MAS counted to the atmosphere. It's all lost. The ECU still thinks it's getting 58 units of air to the engine, so it's putting in 149 units of fuel (or whatever). In reality, since you vented, now the engine's only getting 32 units of air, but the engine is still getting 149 units of fuel. In other words, the car runs super rich. As most advanced tuners will tell you, to make power you usually take fuel away, to get to a leaner mixture, and given that DSM's normally run richer than they need to be anyway, the results of improperly venting your BOV are highly frowned upon in this community.

Since this question is so often asked by newcomers to DSM's, there is a sticky thread about it in the Frequently Asked/Answered Questions thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113858

If you really want to vent, you need to run a blowthrough setup or speed density. Searching for either of those should give you plenty of information.

A bov is only open for less than a second. I dont run speed density or blow through and i have absoloutly no problems. My car is not a daily driver and only sees the street about once every 2 weeks.

**Just giving my own personal experience with venting because people seem to think it is an absooute no no and will give you nothing but problems, but not true

I vented my BOV on account of the intake I had had no recirculation tube. The car ran like shit, rich after shifts, fouled the plugs, detonated like an iraqi suicide bomber. If you want your BOV to be louder do the dump tube mod. This is kinda like who wants to be a millionaires ask the audience lifeline. Not everyone agrees to one answer, but the majority are right. Some people say their car runs fine venting others know what detonation sounds like. You decide.

Just because one can run a mile "with no problems" being a smoker doesn't mean one shouldn't quit smoking and run 2 miles with ease. It is physically impossible to "not have any problems" when venting with stock MAFs, just because you don't feel it doesn't mean it isn't there. Hell I ran with one tooth off for a while and didn't even know it. ROFL This subject is not a matter of "personal opinion" or "personal experience", this is a matter of "physics", just hook up a logger and you will see.
