I was trying to figure out why my dsm was over heating and found out that it is probably air in my coolant lines or it has a blown head gasket. Then one night I parked it out side of my house and went inside and went to bed. The next morning I come out to start it to go to work and the damn car wouldn't start. So I check the spark, compression, and fuel (I checked to see if the fuel rail was getting fuel) and they all worked. But I did notice that my spark plugs are getting soaked with fuel. So I poured some rubbing alcohol down my spark plug holes and then let that sit over nite and put the plugs back in and tried starting it and nothing happened. Does any one have any idea what my problem can be?

I also need to know what color wire goes were on the harness for the Engine coolant temperature switch (air conditioner). It goes in the thermostat and it's the top sensor.

First of all why would you pour down rubbing alcohol down your spark plugs ?... Wow what a way to start ruining your car, sorry there is really no point to having done that, and if im not wrong, there is now alcohol in your pistons, you cannot combust alcohol...

rubbing alcohol dries fast and it's not in there we did it to dry up all the gas in the combustion chamber. Try thinking before you do mild insults. The guy that was over here last night wouldn't help much but he has been a mechanic for 40 years and he knows a thing or two.

Edit: another thing is I could have hooked the coolant temp sensor up wrong also. All the wires have become old and torn apart. So they all have pigtails on them so I really don't know what colors go to what terminals. So I could have reversed the polarity and messed it up. If this is possible can some one tell me and if so I need to know what color goes were for the coolant temp sensor.

First of all i was not insulting if you read correctly, my tone was more of a confused on why you would do that type of thing. Now that you cleared that up, there were other ways you could have dried up the injectors, you could have pulled them out and dried them or replaced them for cheap units at the auto store if you had some money.
Also just cause someone has been a mechanic over 40 years proves nothing to me. My grandfather introduced me to a friend he knows that is a mechanic not sure for how long much way less than 40 years and he fixed 2 problems on my aunt's grand vitara that no other longer-working mehanic elsewhere could not figure out. (Sorry to get-off topic i had to state a point).
Getting back to where i was, replace your spark plugs if you haven't already done so and give it a try. I am just trying to help.

Stop insulting each other..... first off. Secondly What is it doing when you turn the key. Just cranking and cranking. Did you try tapping the gas to get it started. I know when the fiav goes bad it is hard to start in the cold and it takes some small pumps to the gas pedal to get her going. Try that..

The car will crank and crank and some times it will act like it wants to start. We have tried the gas pedal idea before and it didn't work. But like I said some times it act's like it wants to start and here is that pic of the spark plugs

[Oh, holy crap. Never platinums on a turbo motor.]

BURN!!! LOL J/k that was comical. LOL

Anyway, Check spark on all wires. If thats good and you got fuel than there isn't many things that can keep it from starting. Check timing. My car's tensioner went bad on my t-belt and when i went to start it in the morn it barely started and ran like crap. It has jumped timing. You might have jumped even more. You might have bent some valves if that happened. check all that and report back!!!:dsm:

oh, you've committed a sin, LOL Your running bosch plugs in an import. LOL NGK!!!

I did check all spark on all wires and it came back ok and I checked the timing and it came back ok. I rebuilt the top half of this car about 3 months ago if that helps any. It has great compression so I know the valves aren't bent thanks for the idea though.

LOL about my plugs btw nice edit LOL

Oh and another thing whats the best way to test fuel injectors with out having a fuel injector tester?

update: I just went out side and disconnected my fuel rail and kept my injectors inside it. i then put a coat under the injectors to see if any fuel would come out after I turned the key and nothing came out of any of them. I'm not sure if I did it right but thats what I did.

They look like they need to be replaced, get regular ngk bpr6 ekn's which is what they sell at the auto stores or bpr7's. Have you also tried checking out if your fuel filter might be clogged ?

The plugs are brand new maybe a month old and I just replaced the fuel filter. I know the fuel line is getting gas. I think I lost almost a gallon of fuel when I was doing the fuel injector test LOL. I will get new plugs when I can get a ride but I know it's not them.

so you have fuel pressure at the rail, but the injectors arn't working.

with the key on take out your cas out and turn it with your fingers and see if fuel comes out your injectors

My Cam Angle sensor? LOL I'm still really new were is the CAS and how do I do that LOL sorry

edit: You know what I know there shooting fuel because the plugs are soaked in gas so it can't be the injectors

edit 2: I have plugs on the way here so after I install them I will update this thread.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone

ok I replaced the spark plugs and nothing has changed. It still cranks no problem and acts like it wants to start. What should I test next any ideas?

I really need help with this one guys. College starts monday and I have no car to get back and forth. This has to be running by then.

I kind of had the same problem, turned out to be the ECU. I had fuel and spark, but it acted just like yours. Pull your ECU and see if it has blown capacitors, and hope it isn't totally fried.

I'm afraid of opening it because it's brand new and I don't want to void the warranty so I will call them.

edit: They said they will exchange my ecu for a new one tomarrow. So After I get the new one and put it in I will update this thread. In the mean time can anyone else come up with any other ideas that it may be just in case it isn't the ECU

When you first turn the car on, the CEL should light up and then go out after 5 seconds. If it doesn't do that, it's the ECU. Otherwise, it might be a fluke. I had a similar problem before. My car just wouldn't start. Mechanic came over, and just cranked it for a full minute before she finally roared back to life with a huge belt screeching sound tons of black smoke coming out the rear end.

But I did notice that my spark plugs are getting soaked with fuel. So I poured some rubbing alcohol down my spark plug holes and then let that sit over nite and put the plugs back in and tried starting it and nothing happened. .

When a fuel injected car gets flooded with fuel you put the pedal to the FLOOR and crank the engine. This CLEARS the cylinder out. I'm not saying that's what is wrong with your car but that is the proper way to clear a flooded FUEL INJECTED car.

Have you tried as an above post suggested and hold the pedal all the way to the floor while cranking. I know if my GSX has sat for a while the only way it will start is if its all the way to the floor with a bit of time cranking even if I have fuel pressure.

did you mess with any of the fuel injector wires? could just of miss wired them or shorting in you injects i have a link for the factory serivce digrams and also fuel trouble shooting.

here its all free:Free DSM manual: 1G of Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser.pdf OnlineFreeEBooks.net the most imitated free ebook site

also don't be a me and make sure your inject fuse is good i spent 2 days shooting wires on them just to notice i missed a injector fuse that was bad i didnt see the first time i check them. :dsm:

hope the link helps:thumb:
