Okay to take off Overdrive

Is it okay to take off overdrive when im passing someone? I really need the higher rpms power as opposed to the weaker 4th gear.

So say im already in fourth, can I take off OD and switch back to third without hurting anything?

If you floor it, it should downshift into 3rd or 2nd anyways.

Depending on how I'm passing etc I'll do it so that I can ease in and out of D instead of nailing the gas and slamming into it.

I did this on my stock trans for a year...then an end clutch/shift kit trans for a year....and now with an IPT trans for six months....no problems. My trans failed in August/September from a clogged cooler so if that didn't happen you can bet I'd still be on the stock trans..
