So I was pounding seals into place today on my front cover and I pounded my oil pump seal in a little crooked. I straightened it out but now on one side, the outside lip is showing a tiny bit (the lower outside lip stayed where it was, and the upper outside lip started moving down). The other side is flush against the grove. Should I take it out and try it again? Buy a new seal and try it again? Or just leave it. A second opinion from my autoshop teacher said it was fine, but thats just an opinion.

The seal should not be crooked. You don't need to pound it in, but rather press it in. Thats probably why it is in there crooked.

I would carefully remove it. If any of the springs on the back end are kinked, or the rubber is ripped, then replace accordingly.

Once you have one in good shape, go ahead and press it in gently with your fingers, it should take just a little bit of force to seat properly.
