Oil pump damage?

I am doing my BS removal (engine in car) and as I took off the front cover and removed the oil pump, I noticed something that might be damage.

The area in red is coarse compared to the smooth wall next to it. Looks like the gears somehow twisted and chewed at the housing. They looked fine to me though I've never seen new gears and have no idea what "good" gears should look like. But then they're harder than the aluminum so maybe they could still chew it and not show wear?

Please advise. Getting a new pump won't be a disaster for me but I'd like to avoid it if possible.
 
Those are just casting marks, here's a picture of a brand new one.
