I was looking at my oil pressure gauge while letting my car warm up for the drive home from work and noticed that when I push down on the clutch pedal, the the oil pressure will spike say maybe 10-15 psi. It did this even until the car was warmed up. I never noticed this any other time before, although it's possible it could have been doing this before. The car didn't have any problems driving back. I even did the turn left with the clutch down test for crankwalk.

What do you guys think this could be? The last thing I need is some major repair on my car.

Something is wrong with your thrust bearing, which is possibly crankwalk.

thats not what I wanted to hear guys :(

I know. :( But it's better you find the problem now and fix it rather then continue driving and have the motor explode.

Pull the oil pan and check for play. Takes about 3-4 hours to remove it, check, and put it back.

Well, I pulled and pushed on the crank pulley as hard as I could. And it really didn't move much, but I could hear side to side clicking. :(.

Could it be anything else? Or should I just consider it walked?

I need serious advice here now. The car drives fine however. No sticking clutch around corners, no ticking/other odd noises, no rpm drop, no shavings in oil?

Use a strong screwdriver or crowbar to lever the crank. Give it some muscle, and measure the movement (Check both directions). I can't remember what the spec is but it's small. If you're within spec then you're all good.

Thanks for the help man, I'm gonna go get a micrometer tomorrow and i'll check it. I guess it is what it is, and there isn't much changing it.

Still doesn't do much to explain my oil pressure increasing with clutch movement. It just seems like it has to do with a bearing or something inside the motor.

This is just speculation BUT... if you have crankwalk then when you push the clutch in and the crank moves then the oil squirters on the crank might be partially blocked by the thrust bearings. This would limit the oil flow causing a spike in oil pressure.

However, this is just a guess. Ask a wisemen, they'll know for sure. Or search.

I have spent hours searching here and all over the web. I cannot find info that has to do with this symptom. WTF

Well.... just do what I do. PM a wisemen and send him a link to this thread along with your question.

Or start a new thread with your question.

EDIT: I have similar symptoms. My motor is currently sitting in my garage. The thrust bearings were destroyed (chunks in the oil pan) and they took the valve guides, seals, and turbo with them.

**UPDATE**

I changed the oil tonight and found absolutely nothing in the oil. It was just black oil...

Now i didn't pull the pan, but even if there were big chunks in there, wouldn't there at least be something in the oil that drained out? Because there was nothing.

Also, the oil pressure still changed a little with clutch movement, but only about 2psi now. After a quick drive, it didn't do it at all. For some reason, I highly doubt my oil change fixed whatever is/was wrong, but idk.

It is best you pull the oil pan and check for play. Either way you may or may not have to get an engine. Be ready though.

You won't find anything in the oil. I drained my oil (was black too) and found nothing. Then I pulled the pan and bam... there is was. Chunks and shavings. Pull the pan! (Get a new gasket while you're at it)

There was nothing in your oil?

How about your filter?

Nothing noticeable, which is why I was so shocked when I pulled the pan. I had another symptom to. Car was smoking. It just got worse and worse. The metal debris chewed up my valve seals and I was blowing oil into the combustion chamber. Keep an eye on your car's exhaust. Start it up cold and check the tail pipe for smoke.

What color smoke?

Blue smoke right? It doesn't smoke to my knowledge, but i'll keep an eye on it.
